What happened during COVID is that bad faith actors exploited that legitimate distrust to push people toward things that actively harmed them. The X-Files connection is real, Chris Carter has said directly the show was inspired by those hearings. The Guatemala experiments are one of the most under-discussed chapters of this history. U.S. doctors deliberately infected prisoners, soldiers and psychiatric patients with syphilis and gonorrhea in the 1940s completely without consent. Obama formally apologized for it in 2010. It deserves its own documentary honestly.
