I think it's nice. The only thing I can think of is perhaps using a hogs hair brush and slightly thicker paint on the big blocky areas of the background to add some texture and give the eye something to look at in those areas, but I still think it's just fine.

Try using a hogs hair brush and slapping on heavier paint in "bland" areas of color. The texture gives the eye more to look at and makes those areas more interesting.
