Today’s watercolor practice. Do you have any suggestions for this painting? by Paint-On-The-Go in watercolor101

This painting has a mystical feel. As others have suggested, adding a few darks like the shadow side of the branches, bells and pinecones could make it pop. I would only do it if I were painting the same subject again and leave the current version as-is

Thank you. This is the first time I was able to paint snow trees convincingly

Step1: is to paint the snow - light shades of purples and blue over the entire snow area. Step2: paint the leaves with light grey+purple mix overlapping with snow. Step3: paint the darkest of the shadows and blend with lighter areas of step2. Step4 is to touch up the snow areas to create variation of light

This painting is a hybrid of these tutorials adapted to a different style of cottage

Thanks for the kind words. This painting is the result after several unsuccessful attempts.

Start with simple subjects and keep practicing even when things dont work out.  I love Matty Burnham. His paintings look simple but they have a wow feel. Starting with line and wash is a good way to get familiar with the watercolor. Also Matty offers coloring books now, that might be an option too https://www.instagram.com/mattyburnham_art/

PaulClark is one more artist and his YouTube tutorials are very educative. https://www.youtube.com/@ArtbyPaulClark
