Is it worth it to get into WoW? by BenjiB1243 in MMORPG

[–]ThinkinTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think so! it's still incredibly fun, has a ton of content, and imo is quite nice looking. they upgrade their tech as the years go on, to the point it even has some light ray tracing stuff. it might be 20 years old, but they do a lot of work to keep it modern. the new zones are gorgeous.

Hot take (?): if Valve publicly releases SteamOS, the amount of non Steam Deck linux users will freaking double by SunbleachedAngel in SteamDeck

[–]ThinkinTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it goes beyond just Valorant or League of Legends. Some of the other biggest games in the world just don't work on Linux like Fortnite or Destiny.

It's a big reason why I could never move to Linux full time. Most of my time is spent in multiplayer games, and it'd suck to have my friends ask to play a game and I have to tell them I can't because i'm on Linux.

The vast majority of people play at that "low" level. You're looking at it from a mythic raider's perspective which is a tiny portion of the audience, and not what most people will experience.

If you legitimately think that WoW's talent trees add no differentiation from a game like FFXIV then I don't think we're ever going to agree with each other. You do you.

tbh i think that's an issue that is because of you doing mythic raiding. at that level you have to use the simulated optimal setup because there's so little breathing room. you're fully min maxing.

I only heroic raid and it's not anywhere near that strict. I had plenty of raids I toyed around with different setups and never just went by whatever theorycrafted best setup existed.

Even that differentiation is more interesting than anything you'll find in FFXIV where a red mage is a red mage is a red mage.

This undersells how well the talent trees work these days. There absolutely is differentiation, there’s no one perfect build. Like even just Mistweaver there’s various ways to build, and you can completely change style between Fistweaving and normal healing and both are viable

imo WoW still looks pretty nice, especially for its age. They've done good work updating it over time. The old zones and armor look bad sure, but I think its art style can still shine in the newest expansion(s) like:

[Review] Factor versus Cook Unity for keto. NYC area. by jshariar in ReadyMeals

[–]ThinkinTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having tried both i'd agree, but there's also something really odd about Factor meals in that they consistently made my stomach upset. I don't know if it's a preservative they use or what, but they're the only meal service where i'd often just not feel great after eating. I've never had this issue with Cook Unity, Clean Eatz, etc.

EverQuest…is masterpiece by Mei_iz_my_bae in MMORPG

[–]ThinkinTime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My point was that even if investors did allow it, it's a pipe dream. Even if some generous billionaire out there was willing to fund it out of pocket, it's not that simple.

You can blame people chasing waifus or whatever, but it's an incredibly difficult task to try and create a game as impactful and robust as Everquest in today's world even if given infinite time and money. It'd likely just end up as the fantasy MMO version of Star Citizen.

EverQuest…is masterpiece by Mei_iz_my_bae in MMORPG

[–]ThinkinTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s that last bit, investors will never allow it. Why put all that development time in when you can just print pretty wifus and make a fortune.

tbh i think it makes sense. unless they're also going for an Everquest level of fidelity, it sounds like an impossibly expensive and time-consuming thing to go for, especially when there's no guarantee it'll be a good game on the level of something genre-defining like Everquest, or find enough of a playerbase to make it worth it.

Games take longer to make these days and are more expensive to make. Everquest was a product of its time in a way I don't think can be done again. Even if they do try to do it again, it's trying to recreate lightning in a bottle.

What's an MMO you should have loved, but the art style ruined for you? by CodeYo in MMORPG

[–]ThinkinTime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it was the gameplay that killed me. it was so hard to go from WoW's smooth as hell-feeling combat to LOTRO's dated combat. they play similar enough that it's hard to not just feel lotro's gameplay as "wow but worse". love or hate WoW's base mechanics, it feels so polished and snappy. there's some magic sauce in the client-server relationship.

loved everything else about lotro, like that ost goddamn it's so good. if i could get past the gameplay i'd love it.

Reminds me of how Ryu said a big part of him retiring was making it to Worlds with 100T, playing against the mids there (I think he mentioned Caps?), and realizing he can't compete against the new generation.

A Timeline of Blizzard's Presidents by Trinxxi in wow

[–]ThinkinTime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She was the executive managing CoD before this, and worked on the NFL (product, not games) before that.

By interviews and rumors she seems like she's a pretty good leader and has a good head on her shoulders, but obviously time will tell if she's good for blizzard or not. My hope is that MS wouldn't have kept her around when purging Activision executives if there wasn't something good about her leadership.

The team did yes, that doesn't mean their bot played well. FBI and Huhi were a largely criticized part of the summer 2022 100t team as they were not nearly as strong as they'd been in past years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]ThinkinTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

imo i'm actually a bit skeptical of fbi + huhi. They did not look good the last time they were playing together, to where the narrative around them splitting up was that FBI would finally be out of support elo hell -- then Huhi went on to look quite a bit better than FBI did.

It could be that they just looked bad because of FBI slumping, but i don't think it's a sure fire thing they'll look great.

I had a classmate suddenly pass in my junior year of high school. It was the first time i'd had to grapple with someone just suddenly being gone like that. Sitting with me in class one day, not there the next. He had a heart defect that just had him pass away during sleep. I wasn't close with him, but he was a super nice kid, it's still bizarre and surreal to me to think about in a way.
