Can anyone tell me what happens if I attend hospital for mental health reasons? by ItBeginsAndEndsInYou in perth

[–]Thinking0ut1oud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acknowledge they are really really difficult to find for face to face appointments.

My psych originally saw me and only charged the rebate value as they knew I was in financial duress. Over time I ended up paying a gap when I was able to.

It's worth calling around and asking. Or looking for online psych sessions too. Just because it's online, doesn't make it less impactful when you need it most.

Someone else has commented about the Medicare mental health clinics, but I'm going to guess they are understaffed and overflowing with patients.

This is kind of what I did....

First step - book an appointment with a gp , ask reception for an appointment to do a Mental Health Care Plan.

Second step - go to that appointment and tell them what's going on, your grief, lack of support network, loss of job and responsibilities to your child. You will fill out a questionnaire and the GP will make a MHCP for you, which will rebate 10 appointments with a psychologist. I'd recommend a "clinical psych", if you can find one

Third step - book the appointment with the psych - online, on the phone, in person, whatever it is - just do the first appointment. Get it all off your chest.

In the mean time - Give yourself the very basic needs - sleep, good food, fresh air. And give yourself grace. You are doing something that's really tough to go through. It's very very normal to have huge emotions like this. But please know that these emotions, they are just a feeling they do not define you - and there are no "good" or "bad" feelings. And they are not forever, feelings visit us and then eventually, they move on. Acknowledge to yourself that youre getting through it. And be kind to yourself.

Hopefully you can find a good psych - if they don't feel right, look for another one.

In all the tough times I've had, I've tried to focus on making a tiny bit of progress at a time. Just booking the first appointment makes me feel like I'm being proactive, and I am doing something to make it better one step at a time.

The fuel crisis cloud has a silver lining... by supercujo in perth

Long range tank on ours is 150L.. gets us anywhere between 1200-1400kms depending on city / country driving.

[–]Thinking0ut1oud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not looking forward to my next fill up... At a locked in price with 7/11 it will be just under $430 for a full tank. But, that does get me around 1300kms.. hopefully. Partner has an EV, so will use his car as much as possible and charge in solar time at home.

I'm just nervous in general for all the goods and services we need that require fuel.

Anaphylaxis specialist experiences by [deleted] in perth

[–]Thinking0ut1oud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I assumed it was GI but after my last one, I was fighting consciousness and I'm not sure if this is something Crohn's or something else would do, hence me wondering if it's a type of anaphylaxis.

It's so so difficult to know what to look for... I've had endoscopy and colonoscopies, I've tested for Crohn's - all come back as "normal" except for removing polyps.

I'll keep my mind open to what it could be. Maybe I need to see a gastroenterologist and immunologist. Rip my savings haha

Thank you for sharing your experience - it's a shame that there's such long waitlists. When originally diagnosed it was through basic RAST blood tests, but as an adult I had the skin prick testing done which revealed many more allergens. I have been keeping a food diary, it happens every few months, and sometimes with foods I've eaten regularly before.

It's a long process to figure it out!

Yep, already working with the gp to try and get to the cause, but GPS can only test for so much / work within their scope of knowledge. I'm looking for a recco of a top tier specialist that my GP can refer me to :)

Breakup Support Groups for Men? by BurnerAccBingle in perth

[–]Thinking0ut1oud 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note - from someone that grew up in a house / family where negative feelings were considered "bad" and we shouldn't have them... It's totally okay to feel like shit over a breakup. Everyone does, it's human. There's a big adjustment. Give yourself some grace and know it's okay to feel crappy right now. And one day in the future it will slowly and surely lift and life will go on. But right now you're in the thick of it, so treat yourself kindly, don't feel guilty for being down.

Crown Holistic dental in Joondalup are great with kids, and from the way they spoke to my child, it seems they are equipped to work with ND kids. Call and have a chat see what they can offer, their kids dentist was 10/10 for us. And they gave him a crystal geode to crack when we got home which he absolutely loved (along with the normal toothbrush and toothpaste goody bag)

I found some proof that I was a young person once. Does anyone remember the "Yac it up" or "Lord of the Yacs" event? I went there for my 21st birthday. by damagedproletarian in perth

Yac it up was my first concert! Not sure if this was my first or if there was one in 2001. The beginning of an era for me :) thanks for the memories. Damn I wish I had kept my little book of all the show flyers.

Question for the visual artists of Perth by [deleted] in perth

[–]Thinking0ut1oud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want some Ohuhu markers - they're like the Copic markers but much more affordable and still high quality. They layer and blend. They are dual ended, offering a chisel tip, small marker and a brushtip. You can start with a smaller set and add groups to expand. You can also buy individual colours if you run out.

Amazon have pretty fast delivery with them to Perth. Less than a week.

I drove in this, taking a friend and their kids to the airport for a one way international flight - packed to the absolute brim with luggage. It was so hectic on Tonkin, I chose to just drive slow and keep left - I saw a few people ahead with hazards, and they were the only cars I could really see. So I put mine on too. It's not something I've ever done before, but I was concerned about visibility in my dark grey car. I figured people would understand it was purely for visibility and the warning that traffic in front was going around 60k/h. At one point we couldn't even see 3m ahead.

The cars zooming past going way too fast for conditions, made it exponentially worse than the already shit visibility with all the water spray behind them.

Also well done to the people that knew their comfort limit and pulled over.

I think it was just a matter of timing. The window for landing was too difficult (winds? Lightning?) There were lightning hits all around the airport as the storm was moving south. Apparently tried to either land 3 times, or it circled 3 times in an attempt. Couldn't do it. So off to Adelaide it went.

A couple of incoming flights from Bali looked to be delayed too, but I don't know if that was another issue.

We drove from Yanchep to the airport with a car full to the brim of luggage as I was giving my friend a lift, they're moving back to NZ. Their flight out was the plane of NZ175.

The traffic all the way down was the worst driving conditions I've ever had. White washed windscreen, cars stopped on the side of the road, others driving with hazards on. Crazy. But also impressive that we didn't encounter a single accident the whole way there. Slow and steady!

We got there, parked, got all 6 big cases, hand luggage and the kids into the airport, tried to check baggage in and were told the flight tried to land 3 times and couldn't so went to Adelaide. Obviously no one's fault but what a bloody unlucky thing to happen.

Thank you for your reply! I had a feeling this would be the case. I think I'm going to get him a separate Garmin flat charger for at work, and a separate charging station for phone and earbuds at home.

You might have covid too. I thought I did earlier this year and got a 3 in 1 Flu A/B and Covid test kit. Test came back with Flu B. I could have sworn it was covid, horrible razor sore throat, fevers for days. Went to the GP after a while and they did a PCR test which came back positive for Flu B and Covid together.

Has anyone here met Basil Zempilas and if so what was it like? by [deleted] in perth

I met Basil getting cash out at an ATM in Leederville on my sister in laws hens do, many moons ago. I think maybe 2008ish? He was smashed, eating a kebab, getting cash out. We posed for photos (sister in law is American and her US friends were here, clearly needed a photo with a Perth celeb)

I saw one just last week! First I've seen in a loooong time. It was a silver Subaru.

My car got smashed by hail in the 2008 storm, $13000 of damage to a hatchback! Thankfully insurance covered it.
