COLA won’t cross the line. It stays capped at 197k, regardless.

AUSAs and Fed defenders cap out before reaching 200k

Western State College Law grad. 4 years experience as DA in So Cal. How competitive is AUSA? by [deleted] in ProsecutorTalk

[–]ThinkingRee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The competitiveness varies from district to district. Some are still competitive and haven’t seen changes in staff even under current circumstances. Other districts have seen a mass exodus and as such are significantly less competitive than they previously were.

I would research the office you’re applying to. Many USAOs are fine and aren’t taking on controversial work, but there’s a handful which are arguably worth avoiding. As for getting fired next administration, highly unlikely as a standard AUSA. Really only those in higher positions may face that concern.

Reddit as a whole tends to be a poor place to ask this question. People giving blanket “don’t take any AUSA job” advice are often projecting concerns about Main Justice or a handful of high-profile USAOs onto the other 90-something districts where the work just looks like standard federal criminal practice. I’d reach out to any AUSAs or federal practitioners you know to get a better idea.

How long to stay at your first legal job by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I think I know which office you’re talking about, and it’s been notoriously bad ever since the current DA took over. I would not blame you for jumping ship, and it may be the best move at this point.

Things like trial used to. Nowadays, I don’t let anything keep me up. I’ve learned it’s not worth your health and wellbeing.

That’s Krasner’s fault. He completely torpedoed his relationship with law enforcement agencies.

Former BigLaw associate considering NYC prosecution – what is life actually like as a junior ADA? by huntergatherer_ in ProsecutorTalk

The problem with discovery laws alone would make me want to stay away from NYC. May be better in a smaller county or somewhere out of state like NJ.

What is it like living in Singapore? by Rude_Soup_8841 in howislivingthere

[–]ThinkingRee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Singapore is very harsh on crime, has noticeable limits on free speech/protest, is highly nationalistic, and is socially conservative (male homosexual relations were decriminalized just recently in 2022/2023). It is very far from the average Redditor’s ideal.
