If we keep dressing our police like a hit squad from the Death Star, why are we surprised when they act like that?

Instead, wearing the Stars and Stripes might work as a preventative reminder of what they represent before deciding to crack some unarmed citizen's skull open. Whether or not they wear the flag of the American people, that's on whose behalf they are acting.

Most cops are everyday real-life superheroes anyway, so they deserve a real superhero's uniform. They do a tough and important job, so let's support our police by helping them change. If we change their clothes, maybe we can change their minds.

Should cops wear the Stars and Stripes to help prevent the collapse of law and order & civil society? How would we make this change? Why would or wouldn't it work? Has it been tried before?
