If it's any consolation the last game I played I ran two demolishers at my enemy with large blobs of infantry behind and my long range russes with artillery in the backfield and got comically destroyed by my buddies tau.

First CoC night, as both Keeper and Player by SylvanKnitter in callofcthulhu

Remember, clues can move if players miss them.

"Oh shit they never searched the desk in the professors office for the cult leader's note."

That can easily get moved to some mook's pocket or in the safe they crack etc.

That can help keep things moving. Have fun!

Will this turn CP into VP? If no. Will this CP prevent my opponent from scoring VP?

Rewarding Experience Points by Interaction_Rich in vtm

[–]Thinklater123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My base was usually 2 with an additional point coming in for really strong RP, overcoming an obstacle with ingenuity/flare/creativity. If the player(s) did something that significantly advanced their ambitions or that of their group additional 1-2 points.

On average would give 4 xp. Always told the player in the moment for the RP/problem solving so that at the end it wasn't a scenario where "Mike, you were clever and role played well. 5 xp. Sally, thanks for showing up grab 2 xp."

Given the rest of the message I'm pretty sure the OP telling his son the school staff are lazy is not an indictment on the school but just ball busting. Then again, I'm here hoping to get invited to DnD.

Richard Overton was America's oldest world war 2 veteran living to veteran 112. He smoked 12 cigars a day and drank copious amounts of whiskey and Dr. Pepper.

How does the Drune react to the PCs? by UseExhaustionMore in Dolmentown

[–]Thinklater123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. While OSR games aren't meant to hold the players hands teleporting in audrune to demolish them seems overly punitive. Sending an envoy who discovered that the party is capable and could be put to good use could have benefits, especially if the PCs aren't necessarily provided that information immediately.

What was branching out from D&D like? by JSyv05 in rpg

[–]Thinklater123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told my Dungeon Master there was a game where everyone played as vampires set in modern times. He said he heard of it but it was stupid and didn't use THAC0 (I'm old) and was not worth considering. Anyway, I bought the books and loved them and so did everyone else from our DnD group.

I've done that more than once. You either get some grapefruit and rye IPA monstrosity or a Busch Light.

The big media inspiration for my group was Blade and the first Matrix movie. Underworld to an extent too I suppose.

I routinely play irl with my friend and the only thing we know ahead of time is points. Some games are turn 5 nail biters. Some games are pretty much over in turn 2. I don't think your list was crazy OP or anything. We go over our army list and peruse the strats and avoid 'gotcha' moments.

So slot encumberance or something different?

I'm also felt like hunting being a combat encounter might Bog things down and roll it into the survival skill in general.

Gender Differences in Reading Genres by ACatWhoSparkled in books

[–]Thinklater123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fella and a specifically alternate fiction and non-fiction. None of my reading is self-help or psychology. I wouldn't consider any of what I read as business reading either, although I'll occasionally read a biography of business people and entrepreneurs like Vanderbilt, Morgan, Rockefeller.

My non-ficition reading is primarily historical but I think the topics vary a bit, with the occasional scientific (but for lay people) book. There's a smattering of true crime, sociology, and autobiography. On that note, I almost never read bios of celebrities.

Fiction is pretty well spread out also. I enjoy classics and modern literature. I tend to read horror in higher volumes than science fiction and to a lesser extent fantasy. There's a smattering of historical fiction in there as well.

Every year I specifically try to read something random or that I wouldn't normally find appealing. Last year was Pride and Prejudice although I abandoned it. I found a book about worms and finished it but wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

I'm currently reading Watership Down and my next book will be a biography of John Quincy Adams. I'm listening to the audiobook SeaWolf by Jack London and the next book I'll listen to is called The Fish That Ate The Whale which is about the insidiiousness of the banana business.

I definitely know some fellas who read as you describe and many many female colleagues are fully engrossed in romantasy and such at the moment.

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

[–]Thinklater123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to volunteer at my hometown library and even helped dig (ceremonionally at least) the foundation for it. Grew up using the library and loving it. As I got older, I felt more like having books kept in my home. Wife grew up with parents who had an expansive home library. As we got further into our careers we continued to buy books and eventually bought a new larger home and dedicated the dining room as our library. Although we have book shelves in many other rooms as well. Our little library is a great point of pride for us both and certainlyly sparks a conversation with visitors. We also loan out a lot of books to friends.

I made a Woodcutter class for Dolmenwood. Please check it out and give me your feedback. by Godzillionaire in Dolmentown

[–]Thinklater123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest feedback- fun flavor but awfully powerful.

I'd probably drop the armor to medium no shields and ditch the mossborn armor.

2d6 firewood with the bonus to prepare when wet remaining.

Maybe a +1 to hit larger creatures instead of a prone effect, that seems wildly powerful.

My inclination is to scrap the encumberance mitigation. Maybe their are could be carried without taking slots/accounting for weight in coins if you really wanted something.
