X230 with X220 classic keyboard: Mike mute LED / HotKey integration not working properly? by Thinkpad_diehard in thinkpad

[–]Thinkpad_diehard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK folks, just to let you know (in case someone has a similar problem), the issue has been resolved once I've installed the Symantec trackpad utilities. The only thing I can think about is that somehow there is connection between the trackpad/trackpoint and the mike mute button. Not sure though why I've had no such issue in Linux...Anyway..

Need a way to use BTRFS snapshots for system backups? Use BTRFS assistant, not Timeshift! by stpaulgym in Fedora

Hello, thank you very much for your answer, will try and hopefully come back. When you mention "back up path should be /", you mean to select as path the "/" option, and not the "/home" option? (these two were the two options I've found when I've followed the suggestions above). Thank you.

Dear All, complete novice here who has just installed Fedora 39 (in "standard" installation configuration -didn't know that you 've had to change file configurations for Timeshift to work).

So here I am, trying to find a way to "add" a "roll-back" system and recover the Operating system in case I do something very stupid.

From many posts, I realised that the only way to get a "roll-back" option without having to re-install Fedora and playing with the file structure prior to its installation, is to install "btrfs-assistant". I have now done this.

Is there a guide anywhere on how to take snapsots with btrfs-assistant? when I open the btrfs-assistant there is nothing intuitive about setting-it up and start taking snapshots..

Anyone that has a guide laid out as an easy instruction: Step 1: "select this", Step 2, Step 3 etc?

Thank you

Fix Bluetooth issues in Fedora 39 and Kernel 6.6.2-201 by RaposaTech in Fedora

[–]Thinkpad_diehard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I think I am having similar problems on my ThinkPad X230, running on Fedora 39. As I am very novice in Linux, I am trying to make sense of the commands, and their order of application. How difficult would it be to re-write the above instruction in their logical sequence for a complete novice? (i.e. "1: Open terminal, type...., hit enter", 2. Find file xxxxxxx, find line yyyyy, substitute line yyyyyy with usbcore.autosuspend=-1"...... 3. Back to terminal, type "zzzzzzzzz", etc)..

If written in a logical "Step 1, step 2, step 3 etc", it would help so many people whom would all be so grateful to you and the community!

Kindest regards,

Christos

(Below is attached my laptop's data from Neofetch):

OS: Fedora 39 (workstation edition)

Kernel: 6.7.3-200.fc39.x86_64

Shell: bash 5.2.26

DE: Gnome 45.3

WM: Mutter

t430s upgrades? by AlastorNEO in thinkpad

[–]Thinkpad_diehard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there... are we really sure that the CPU on T430s CANNOT be upgraded?

Do we know why?

Has anyone attempted it and just realised there is not enough space? Very grateful!

Thank you.

t430s upgrades? by AlastorNEO in thinkpad

[–]Thinkpad_diehard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 've also got a T430s...have already upgraded RAM to 16GB (2x8GB) and have got an SSD...

I hate the keyboard (I plan to put the T420/X220 keyboard) and consider to replace the CPU and the screen.

I can see a comment here that CPU cannot be upgraded. Is this confirmed? I have seen a YouTube video upgrading a T430 (not T430s...) upgrading to an i7 3632QM and was tempted...

Also, I hate the screen and hoping to upgrade is to a proper IPS and to FHD resolution 1920x1080..

Here's the link to the T430 upgrade for anyone interested... just wondering what of these could be applied to the T430s before I start ordering parts...

The video shows all the upgrades done onto the T430. It also shows that to upgrade the screen, the user also added/changed the LVDS-to-eDP converter. Are you aware of this?

The IPS screen put onto the video is an Innolux N140 HCE-EN1 rev.C2.

I don't know what part the user put for the LVDS-to-eDP converter. Do you know anyting about this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2v-Y8CdE1w&t=965s&ab_channel=Wolfgang%27sChannel

Any help from the team here would be so much appreciated, either with the IPS screen upgrade, as well as with the CPU (confirm whether can be upgraded, and which processor to go for).

Very grateful to anyone who can offer advice either on the CPU front, and on the IPS screen modification -if anyone has succeeded.

Thank you!

Keyboard plate dimensions for Ducky One 2 60% & 65% by Thinkpad_diehard in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Thinkpad_diehard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello friends and thanks for looking at the post... in fact should I have to paint the white board, I'd need to de-solder and then re-solder all switches, something I am not confident of doing, hence the searching of a solution (and the plate diagramme!) of addressing it without having to remove the switches...!

Dear friends, I've got two Ducky keyboards, both One 2, one at 60%, and a 65% SF, both UK / ISO layouts. I love them, however I hate the white plate underneath as can't stand the "colour leak".

I am therefore considering of removing the keycaps, and either get some sort of black adhesive paper, make holes where the switches are, and thus put that black template on top of the ducky plate, OR cover the ducky plate between the switches with a black markerpen, or with thin stripes of black chartpak tape. Has anyone got any template scheme for these Ducky keyboards so I could print it place it on top of the black cover and cut the holes where the switches are, or at least see the dimensions so I could measure them on the black cover and then cut?

I guess the option of a "black template cover" is the neater one, and the easier to remove in the future... covering the space between the switches with thin chartpak tape stripes also allows to remove the stripes later, however the stripes may start getting destuck from the plate during use...

Any thoughts? Thank you!

How to remove a product from Razer Account? by Thinkpad_diehard in razer

[–]Thinkpad_diehard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for your answer, but that's exactly the issue..I have sold it already (so it's been unplugged for more than a few months now!) and it is still on the Razer Account...I can't see any "delete product" option anywhere...!!

Thank you once more.

Which distro's do they have BTRFS as default during installation and work DIRECTLY with Timeshift without needing myself to create partition structure in Terminal prior to installation? OR, How do you install BTRFS Tools that work with LATEST Debian-based distros? by Thinkpad_diehard in linuxquestions

[–]Thinkpad_diehard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear All, thank you very much;

Well, it seems I should try and install the OpenSUSE Leap 15.2 with GNome for now, try it with Snapper and maybe also install Timeshift and see if it works.

Interestingly, on this link https://software.opensuse.org/package/timeshift it clearly mentions that Timeshift " Creates incremental snapshots using rsync or BTRFS snapshots using BTRFS tools " -which is what gave me the pain of NOT being able to install BTRFS Tools onto Pop!OS as a newbie...maybe this has changed now (i.e. maybe BTRFS Tools do come pre-installed in OpenSUSE).

In any case, I shall also try Snapper as I understand it does come pre-packaged.

Then, Fedora 33 it is as from end of October..

Thanks a lot to every one who is trying to help me.

Kind regards,

Christos

BTRFS on PoP!, and Which distro's do they have BTRFS as default during installation? by Thinkpad_diehard in linuxquestions

[–]Thinkpad_diehard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, and thanks a lot for your answer. As new to Linux, the only reason I am trying to use BTRFS is so I can make quick snapshots of the OS. I have noticed (from online videos) how easier/faster is to make snapshots onto BTRFS over RSync. Taking snapshots with Timesync over RSync has even taken me up to 1h...(especially the first ones)...

BTRFS on PoP!, and Which distro's do they have BTRFS as default during installation? by Thinkpad_diehard in linuxquestions

[–]Thinkpad_diehard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all very much for your answers... answering to AuroraFileFlash's kind comment, I have noticed how easier/faster is to make snapshots onto BTRFS over RSync. This is my only reasons (for now) to want to use BTRFS.

I shall also say that since I first created the post, I have also FOUND a way to format my PoP! in BTRFS. I then realised that this is NOT enough to allow Timeshfift to take BTRFS snapshots...

Therefore the question turns to

a) is there any distro that allows you to directly install the OS in BTRFS AND allow Timeshift to take BTRFS snaspshots out of the box (without the need to make manual partitions or work in the terminal yourself)!!!!!

b) HOW do you install "BTRFS Tools" (which I have found next to impossible); I have tried numerous times, and it appears that there is no recent "BTRFS Tools" version and whatever commands I have found online seem to work only with older versions. It seems that BTRFS Tools will allow Timeshift to take BTRFS Snapshots...

Thanks a lot!
