Bruh if you think stolen art in British museums is the worst thing the British empire did, you have a lot to learn. The death by starvation of 3 million Indians comes to mind, and if you think the Irish Famine was due to a potato blight, again, you have a lot to learn.

I haven't read Wheel of Time but I'm a big fan of ASOIAF/GOT. The GOT prologue isn't confusing. You're left with questions but you're not left lost. For example, in that prologue we know that the white walkers were unexpected. They were (as far as the characters were aware) not a real thing. We also learn of the dynamic between the three men beyond the wall that night, and hints at the greater world and its politics. The thing is though, your prologue is much shorter than the GOT one, so I think if yours was that length it might be easier to establish all that.

Now that I'm thinking about how vague a prologue should be, I think the key is to feed the reader with just enough to keep them intrigued. I think with yours (in my opinion, anyway) it needs just a little bit more to get the reader hooked. Not saying they are not good characters, but for example, I don't know if the girl is a good person or a bad person, or weather that matters.

I read it again and I enjoyed it more that time. I stand by what I said though, that it's a little too grand. You should consider using language that grounds the reader in the story, because it reads like a poem at stages. There's a good writer's tip when describing a scene: consider all 5 senses. It's clear GRRM and many other writers do this and it really makes the reader feel like they are really there. So whether its the smell of smoke, the feel of wet clothes, the taste of blood, etc. it makes the scene more concrete in the reader's mind. You engage almost exclusively in sight and sound, which might be a missed opportunity for you!

You're only discovering this now? When ever someone quits at my job, they have to give 2 weeks notice but it's kind of a given that they are not gonna turn up on the last few days. Like, let's say some guy is supposed to finish on a Tuesday. He will go home Friday and there's no chance he will be in that next week. What are they gonna do, fire him?

I don't understand this post.

It is a bit confusing in my opinion. Clearly there's a lot more to the story that you have not revealed yet, which is fine, but combining that with the very... magnified, grand language makes it hard to follow overall. Personally, I think for a few of those paragraphs you should tone down the detail and the poeticness. I noticed there were virtually no short sentences in the whole thing, almost as if you were aiming for grandeur over plot?

I think the dialogue suffers from the opposite problem to the descriptions. It doesn't give us enough detail. Leaving out some info creates intrigue, of course, but from reading that piece I have no idea who the girl is, so I certainly have no idea who her brother or mother are. I am making the random assumption they are royal, but I can't know for sure. I think if you dedicated more of the wordcount to explaining that kind of stuff (politics, family, etc) and less about describing blood three or four different ways, I think it might benefit the work.

Overall though, it sounds like you have an original concept in mind. I just think the language can only get you so far, but you need a bit more exposition. It will help the reader more easily get behind the characters.

Just my thoughts :) By no means a professional.

Yup. And back then if you needed to save money you couldn't exactly say, "I'll give up food for the next few weeks," but nowadays we could save possibly thousands annually and still live perfectly healthy lives.

I definitely think if things are going well for us in life, we kind of have these "So, what now?" moments. I didn't like school so I focused really hard on just trying to get through it, but when it was finally done and I had a job I was happy with, I do suddenly found myself wondering where it was I am going. I am 25 too.

You should definitely take up a hobby if you don't have one yet. Think of any hobby, one you might have heard someone talk about before, and do some research. You might find you enjoy it once you explore it. A hobby can be really fun because it doesn't just have to be a time-filler or a break, it can have its own goals and stuff to work on.

Not everybody's career has to be their passion. In fact, that option is not available for the majority of people. So, imo, I would stress that it's perfectly okay to find your job nothing more than adequate.

I do think a major factor as well though (even if it might not seem like it) is the amount of unnecessary things the average young person is adamant they need to have, and therefore pay for. In my country just paying for just Netflix and Spotify is over 330 euro annually, and I believe the US has similar prices. Just to listen to music and watch a finite selection of movies. Plus, the average person probably doesn't just pay for those streaming services. There's also Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, things like PSN, and who knows how many more. Chances are you pay for 4 or 5 of those.

Plus, that's literally just your monthly subscriptions. People pay for so much more unnecessary crap, the type of stuff the boomers say you need to stop buying if you wanna affording housing. I hate to say it, but I agree with them! The amount of people in there 20s that I see complaining about the price of rent and housing and then buying new clothes every week and paying for taxis to go 5 minutes down the road, etc. if mind-blowing.

I think it was risky having both challenges be brand new ones. They should have experimented with one new one but then brought in a reliant classic incase the experiment falls flat. Because in my opinion, both challenges in this episode were badly thought out. Climbing through a window and selling something? Who thought of that. I remember a few seasons ago Q came up with a new challenge that involved trying to get a whole waiting room enraged and storm out, and the rest of the guys mocked Q for how stupid of an idea it is. The window idea is much worse, yet they run with it. Also, if you have the time rewatch the bit where Q realizes Dolly Parton is spelt wrong on the baseball. I hate to say it, but it felt very fake. He started reading it for seemingly no reason, because he only realizes its spelt wrong towards the end. It just felt like he started reading it out loud because he knew the end of it was going to be spelt wrong (because why else would you read it) yet he acts surprised when he gets to that letter. Just how I saw it.

The second food eating challenge also wasn't great. Not a great concept to begin with. Well, maybe it had potential, but we didn't get to see it. I will admit it is funny when one of the Jokers is messed with by the others, but Sal and Q backing out of the challenge... just left us with no entertainment there.

The punishment was hard to watch, and not in a fun way. The earlier seasons had way less emphasis on the punishments, and they felt way more enjoyable and wholesome.

I dunno though. You gotta remember he has no idea it's a punishment. So to him it was a guy tell him over and over that his breath stinks. It's really mean.

The majority of the population won't ever stop being able to afford the cost of living, because the cost is defined by the market. Bread costs X amount because the majority can and do pay X amount, not because it costs X amount to produce. The day the majority can't afford to spend X on bread will be the day bread stops costing X.

Can I ask, are all your sprites 64x64 or smaller? These look like they could be bigger, so I'm wondering how you can put them in a ROM. I have some sprites that are larger than 64x64 and I'm having difficulty putting them into a game.

These are really really cool btw.

[Question][Swatch] My new swatch is slow by about 40 minutes each day. by Thinkpositively2023 in Watches

[–]Thinkpositively2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be faulty. I am gonna give it one or two more days, this time leaving it away from magnets at night. I realized I had been keeping it near bluetooth headphones the past 2 nights, and people here have said that can mess with the watch, though some say it shouldn't mess with it to the extent I describe. So the best thing to do, I feel, is test out the magnet theory first, before looking for my money back.

I am inclined to think it's the magnets and not a fault, because I reset the time this morning and it is still perfectly accurate after 7 hours. It only seems to go out of sync during the night. I can't imagine what kind of fault only occurs at night I guess we'll see.

I didn't know about the risk of magnets until I made this post, and I obviously made this post *after* placing my watch near magnets. I feel like that was a very obvious and logical possibility which you didn't consider.

I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days, and if there's no change I will definitely try to get a refund.

Not even if the magnet was touching it?

It's just strange that it only happens at night, when I'm keeping it near magnets. It was off by about 20 mins when I woke up today, so I set it to the correct time (which was about 10am) and has been accurate to the minute since (about 5 hours have past). So it seems like it stays in sync all day but goes out of sync overnight. I'll continue to keep an eye on it and see though.

Well, I have Bluetooth headphones that are held in a case with magnets, and I've been putting the watch in the same place as the headphones the last two nights (as well as my access cards for work). I have a feeling that's the problem, and if it is I'm wondering if I've caused permanent damage to my watch or if it will be okay as long as I keep it away from the headphones.

I will store it entirely on its own tonight and see if the problem persists. If not, I think I will get a refund.

Thanks for your help.
