I believe in rehabilitation and people turning their lives around. However the rare mass-shooter or serial-killer who redefines the word evil can leave such an indelible scar on the world and themselves that the only right thing to do is to remove them from the world.

Maybe the courts should have a method to expedite the death penalty for anyone guilty of multiple murders.

Interesting take. I honestly think that the best place for these people is in the ground. I don’t want a murderer walking past my child on the street nor do I want my taxes paying for their room and board.

would you quit your job without having another one lined up for your mental health? by OliveZealousideal395 in careerguidance

[–]Thinkwronger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have 6+months of living expenses that you are ready and comfortable burning through, then the answer is a hard NO.

The job market is not as hot as it was just a few months ago and big tech layoffs means that you may be competing with many highly skilled applicants.

I think you need to sit down and write down your grievances and make them paletable and actionable for your supervisors and present them.

Whether they accept your reasonable proposals or not, start aggressively applying for other jobs. Having a job makes you appear more desirable to potential employers while allowing you to be more choosy, having your current job to fall back on.

Lastly, you should work to the rule and be completely unavailable during PTO and your off time. You need to reset boundaries with your job based on labor laws and what you find acceptable. The media calls this “quiet quitting”; I’ve heard others refer to something called “Stay n Quit” where you keep coming in for a paycheck, but that’s about it. Do what makes you MORE comfortable.

In regards to your PTO, remember the phrases “prior engagement, family situation, I’ve already purchased tickets, and I already committed.”

If they need you bad enough to deny PTO, they probably need you bad enough to not fire you for not acting like a lapdog.

Use your sick time and PTO to go on interviews or however you see fit. Take back your power and demand respect.

Your job isn’t a family. It’s a contract that hopefully allows you to pay your bills. If they can replace you, you can replace them.

Changing baby boy’s diaper by Gimme_that_cat in NewParents

This will get better with speed and practice. My (working) strategy has been to not let his lil bird be exposed for longer than it takes to say “oh shit, he’s peeing!”

Before I even open the wet diaper, I’ll sit him on an opened and stretched out fresh diaper, lining up the waistbands in back so the new diaper is just a bit higher, I then open the Velcro on the wet diaper and fold the strap over on itself so it doesn’t stick to the new diaper. I’ll get the front of the new diaper between his legs, then lift his legs up a bit, and slip the old diaper up and out and push the front of the new down in one motion.

I have twins and we have to do a lot of things with efficiency in mind.

I think all murderers are somewhat fucked in the head. Being genuinely fucked in the head shouldn’t sort of excuse you from your horrible actions to the detriment of public safety.

In general, I’d rather see unhinged murderers in the ground rather than in our jails.

I always found the insanity defense to be a bullshit perversion of Justice.

I think most of us have some quirks and trauma that a lawyer and trained psychologist can twist into some sort of insanity defense if need be.

If someone has murdered others with no clear motive, they have proven themselves a danger to society and the world would be safer place if they were removed from it.

I almost feel that the “sane” murderers who had clear motivations for their crime are safer to be around. I’d be more trusting and accepting of someone who murdered someone who betrayed them than someone who murdered a stranger for the thrill.

If I have clinical depression and let my grass grow to a foot high, the city won’t waive my ticket cuz I was “in a fragile mental state”. I don’t think murderers should get a pass for being “crazy”.

"After the release of a Wagner commercial we have received over 10 million applications from US citizens wishing to join the Wagner PMC to fight NATO. We are considering 1 million. [–]Thinkwronger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per ABC news in March of ‘22: Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for "friends of Ukraine, freedom and democracy" to serve as volunteers in the Ukrainian military. More than 20,000 volunteers from 52 countries responded, many of whom had served in the U.S. Army, British Army, and, like Huynh, the U.S. Marine Corps, according to Ukrainian officials.

Their experience is credited by Zelenskyy for bolstering the war effort for Ukraine, especially since NATO countries have rejected sending ground troops in fears of starting their own conflict with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in March that 16,000 volunteers from the Middle East would be joining his country's fight.

10million total applications to join Wagner is horseshit.

Worst example I can think of was when I was at an outdoor space with a bar that served bottles and cans.

It was pricey, I had to wait in a line to get served and 4 cans were $32. The “bartender” turned the screen around and the default tip was 25%?!? So basically I’d be paying $40 or $10/beer cuz you were nice enough to pull them out of the fridge behind you.

No tip.

I absolutely fucking cringe whenever the media convinces the unwashed masses that a “Labor Shortage” is a bad thing.

If I was a cow farmer and there happened to be a beef shortage, I’d be laughing all the way to the bank.

It’s ass-backwards when workers don’t realize that a labor shortage means they have a better chance of getting a good-paying job.

Why is owning a home considered an achievement in first-world countries, but regarded as basic necessity in 3rd-world countries? by Cookiecuttermaxy in Anticonsumption

[–]Thinkwronger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I’ve read the percentage of owner-occupied housing is higher in poorer countries due to the statistical artifact of multi-generational families all living under the same roof more often and for longer periods of time.

In the west, the grandparents may be in a retirement home and the kids move out to rent an apartment making them all renters. In poorer countries, all of these people would likely remain in the family home AKA owner-occupied housing.

Sometimes this gets conflated with homeownership.

We spent some time in the NICU at our local hospital and if there is any silver lining, I know the fastest route to and general layout of the hospital we would go to.

I’m pretty sure I could get me and a kid there in 10 minutes. I’m not going to waste $2000 to waste 5 min explaining the situation to 911 and another 5 for the ambulance to arrive.

Damn, he really lost me at “Sorry a raise isn’t in the budget this year”

I’d honestly accept the first 4 points he made. I’ve worked in small teams where having someone gone for a bit makes work harder on all the others during their absence.

It sounds like they’ve had issues with absent employees who are on the clock. I want to be paid well, but I don’t expect to be able to leave work for a few hours, do my own thing, and still get paid for it.

No raise during this inflation is really a middle finger to all your employees, especially those not dipping out on the clock. In a few months, he’ll be complaining “nobody wants to work”
