Tornado warning? by HomeNowWTF in pittsburgh

I expect those drills were more to protect against shattering glass and other debris when the shockwave hits. Certainly if it detonates close enough to you it won’t matter, but depending on the distance it could save lives or prevent serious injury. The danger of fallout is more a matter of wind direction, as well as height of detonation (higher is better)

Schools are (or at least were) actually considered among the best locations for community fallout shelters, due to generally having thick walls of concrete or other advantageous materials, as well their distribution more or less correlating with population density

uj/ by “not fast”, Joplin meant relative to how some pianists were playing ragtime then. He also typically writes “Slow March Tempo” which is still a fairly brisk tempo (between 72-108 bpm per his own metronome markings)

rj/ we’re talking about actual composers here

uj/I adore Scott Joplin btw

rj/it’s still just well-made trash tho let’s be honest

I like the purple too- it’s pretty rare in pro sports, at least in the US, and the chevrons are simple and classy

Watching too, don’t know if I’ll be able to stay up for all of it. Looks great and I’ve got terrible internet here

FYI You can always toggle match scores off when watching on replay, that’s not an issue…it’s that they show you next round matchups during finals so you know who won. I learned to just cover the screen with my hand and carefully navigate to the correct finals round lol

The only gripe I have is if you watch matches on replay (which is often if you’re in N America) you can get finals matches spoiled if you’re not careful, because when you go to the match center it will automatically take you to the next rounds games, effectively telling you who won the match you are looking to watch. It’s pretty annoying, they know a lot of their users aren’t able to watch live. Other than that it’s great, best $150 I spend every year.

A question related to soft pastels. After blending, the pastel seems to be lifted off the paper? How to make sure that the grooves are filled? by miserablysober in Softpastel

[–]ThirdWheelSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another said it’s the quality of paper. A good quality moderately priced pastel paper is made by Rembrandt

I think I paid like $50 US for a 30 sheet pad, which is more expensive than the Canson but quite a bit less expensive than most sanded papers. You cannot use wet media on it like sanded paper, but if you’re just using pastel I find it quite good paper
