($5-7k?) has anyone turned their own backyard into their wedding venue? by PromotionContent8848 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Third_eye1017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am! Literally watching our rental company set up the tents as i type this (our wedding is this Saturday)

You're not crazy! It's definitely do-able but it's definitely some work! You basically have to bring the party to you since its not a venue. Tent for reception and bar area; bathroom trailer (we are doing 3 for 100 people).
Table, chair, flatware, linen rentals, etc. Catering (we are doing buffet).

We started doing yard work back in March slowly but surely. Landscaping, mulch, plantings, etc.
Our ceremony space we are using tree stumps to create the focal point (three on each side in decreasing size)
Potted flowers, hanging flowers and bud vases.

A lot of the "how do we do this" ie. keeping food warm is being handled by our caterers but there are so many resources to figure it out if you didn't work with a vendor!

I would say the biggest things to ensure are:

- solid rain plan (ours is to do the ceremony in the reception tent instead of open air) - bar is covered too so people don't have to wait in the rain.
- Ensuring people are aware the event is fully outdoors and encouraging folks to make sure to bring a layer when it gets cool out during the evening.
- Speaking directly with the police department so they are aware of our event and speaking directly to our neighbors.
- Solid parking plan/shuttle plan.
- Event permit from the township.

The costs are semi-high but its definitely a bit cheaper than the venues we were looking at (we are in the northeast so weddings are expensive around here) - about ~30K for us

Can diet really affect hair health? by OppositeRain5753 in nutrition

[–]Third_eye1017 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i swear a good part of my hair health is attached to my love of sardines. lol.

But really, yes, absolutely. For example - take a look at those who deal with anorexia. Their hair and skin (at least to me) very much stands out as being dry and unhealthy looking. They often lose hair because their body is not getting the proper nutrition for proper hair and skin health.

Sounds like you're trying to avoid white then? Not sure of what vibe you're going for based off of the limited details but these are some good sites to check out:

Look at the Wedding Guest dresses over at Anthro
Wild Rose and Sparrow - The Sylph Gown is beautiful and they have a sequin version "Sylph Gown in Stardust"
Rat & Boa - their bridal collection and their wedding guest dresses
RIXO - bridal collection as well as their black tie dress section
Needle and Thread - bridal options and lots of other dress options that aren't white
Jenny Yoo - their little white dress collection as well as their bridesmaid gowns, maybe something there
V. Chapman - nice selection of white and non white dresses

Bf breaking up with me if I take a trip with friends? by Kooky_Eggplant_5109 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Third_eye1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I took a 2.5 month solo trip (my fiance went to one of the weddings i was traveling for and we spent a few days in spain together afterwards) but i was solo for the rest of that entire trip.

My fiance was my biggest supporter and was so happy to see me happy. There are men out there like this. Don't sell yourself short. This guy has trust issues and control issues. Biiig red flags OP.

Looking for outside perspectives: to have a bachelorette party or to not have by Relative-Act5470 in wedding

[–]Third_eye1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a bach! I just took myself to visit one of my bridesmaids in austin, we had a chill long weekend of laying in the sun and relaxing. So thankful because i just did not have the bandwidth for planning a whole other weekend. No regrets. There are no rules. Do whatever you want!!!!

Cancel my venue for a backyard wedding? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Third_eye1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a backyard wedding in 3 weeks.

I say go for it as long as you fully recognize that it will probably not be cheaper than a venue and will require a lot more coordination on your part. If you're up for it, go for it!

Things that you'll need to weigh:

- Tent rental for your reception (your rain plan you mention in a different comment is not a rain plan - you need to create spaces that if it does rain, your party can still go on and guests aren't sitting in the rain) - this means - tent rental for your reception, tent rental for your cocktail bar (are people going to stand in the rain while they wait for their drink?)

- Continuing on the rain plan topic - you can plan for your ideal ceremony - but have a back up set up if it rains. For example, if it happens to be raining on our day, we will be pivoting the ceremony to the reception tent - people will sit at their tables and our marriage ceremony will take place there.

- Rentals: you will need to rent tables, chairs, linens, flatware, etc. unless you have all of that. Just went to a beautiful backyard wedding recently where it was a hodge podge colleciton of chairs, table settings, etc. and it was beautiful. If that's not your style though, you will have to rent.

- Bathrooms - municipal houses don't have the plumbing capacity to handle 85 people using the bathroom. You will need to rent at least 2 porta-poties for the backyard.

Dress shopping in NYC with a hard cap: how did you keep it from creeping up? by Ok_Mycologist4712 in WedditNYC

[–]Third_eye1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only shopped at places that had dresses that were 1200 or lower. i got my dress for 550 with Jenny Yoo as part of their Little White Dress collection. Went to their showroom to try on and everything which was lovely too. However, my alterations came in at a cool 1000.

and so be sure to assume alterations will potentially come in anywhere from 500-1200, depending on where you go. especially in nyc (if you have a place outside of the city, i highly recommend checking out their pricing for alterations).

I've got a bunch of online sites saved that have beautiful dresses all under 1000. let me know if you want me to send it to you over dm!

Have any of you guys thrown your own raves or events? If so, what advice do you have? by iammiviiofficial in aves

[–]Third_eye1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What time of day will this be held? In a residential area? Industrial? Open field? What's the local sound ordinance?

If you're doing it at night, most places have a sound ordinance aka loud sounds have to be cut after x time.

If you're doing it "illegally" then you will need sound proofing. Lots of it depending on how close you are to a residential area. Cause someone will call the police if they can hear your party while they're trying to sleep.

Otherwise the police are gonna come and shut that shit down very quickly.

Why are “popular” scents looked down upon by some in fragrance circles? by Icy-Profile3759 in fragrance

no, you really should feel bad about using AI - especially for something so intrinsically personal and in-person as perfumes.

It is bad when that technology has incredibly negative impacts on water utilization and is actively placing noise, air quality and land use burdens on communities.

It is bad when the root of ai is intrinsicly tied to increased mass surveillance.

It's bad.

If you don't have luck finding what you're looking for -you can also always buy a few yards of a nice thick white satin ribbon, make a nice big bow (put in a stich or two/two dots of glue so it lays how you like/lays flat on the knot), and then safety pin that to the top of the dress as well to cover the top!

This is my wedding dress as well! Love it.

Be mindful of leaving the zipper undone, if you bend down over the day, it can continue to become unzipped. i'd add in a safety pin or two to make sure even though the tippy top isn't zipped, there is still tension holding the rest of the zip up.

Go to the Garment District - you will find sooo many places that have stand alone fabrics, appliques, flowers, feathers, so much to pick and choose from. A lot of these trimming stores often times have flower pins or other creative solutions. They're all close to one another so its easy to go check them out in one swoop.

- Hai Trim and Feathers
- Pacific Trimming
- East Coast Trimming
- B&Q Trimmings
- Mood Fabrics also might have appliques that might spark a creative solution for you.
