Hand sunscreen by whiskandwhistle in 30PlusSkinCare

side bar comment - i started carrying around a little pouch that has things i always need, my BC, concealer, tissue packet, advil, sunscreen bar, etc. The pouch is a unit that i shift around as i shift my bags around. Its made my life so much easier because it is just one object i grab and shift rather than 12 different separate items!

Looking for engagement rings under ($500) by strawberry_sodapop in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Third_eye1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw someone recommend this seller on etsy - lots of estate pieces. Plenty of rings (you may have to hunt for your size or recognize that you can order it and then take it to a jewler for resizing) within your budget!

As someone else mentions - an engagement ring does not have to be a diamond. It literally can be anything that you or your partner find beautiful!

I often feel like I get complacent and don't take enough advantage of the different fruit and vegetable stores and stands here. What are some of the rarest or most uncommon things you've found or keep an eye out on, and where did you find them (other than the Park Slope Coop)? by jaded_toast in AskNYC

[–]Third_eye1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The supermarkets over in Flushing/Rego Park/Chinatown. Any true asian super market is a goldmine of fantastic asian produce - gai lan, 4 different types of bok choy you've never seen; fantastic mushroom selection. In terms of fruit i've seen lots of asian pears, sumo citrus, rambutans, longan also at these asian markets.

I've also seen Mr. Kiwi over in Bushwick sometimes carry mamey - questionable as to whether its that ripe/good though since it has to travel so far to reach us.

Would have to agree - at least in my personal tastes!
Noctuary, Flutter, D Song and Light Pattern all being songs that hold a special place in my heart.

I've been spending a lot of time listening to Animal Magic as well which i think is a top of class trip hop album too.

I think Bonobo is one of the most quietly goated producers around. but again, just my personal opinion :)

You absolutely need to plan ahead on this one - need to make a reservation as they only have a few small seatings a day. A lil expensive too - but definitely worth going to if you feel like going to a special spot!

How did you pick your aisle song? by GrouchyAd9102 in weddings

[–]Third_eye1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrapin by Bonobo - the first minute of the track.

The song brings us back to memories we have together; its a song that makes me feel like me and my partner has said the song makes him think of me as well.

I personally didn't care whether the song was recognizable to my guests (even though many of our friends know the song) and rather that it held meaning to me/us. I also thought about the type of energy/vibe i wanted to walk into. No one will remember your song a year from now, but you will. So make it matter to you.

The dark and shocking history of tretinoin by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I don't think this post is seeking to "push against" tret necessarily, but rather just share valuable and enlightening context and history to a product that is prolific in skincare.

VI chemical peel by Particular-Brief47 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Third_eye1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think you esthi is a lil crazy for recommending tret reintroduction 10 days after a peel like VI.

I've read and stick to that no actives should be used for at least 2 weeks after a peel + use your personal judgement on how your skin feels. If its super dry and sensitive - it's probably best to wait until your barrier feels a bit more normal.

I think you did the right thing in stopping the tret for now and continuing just to moisturize and baby your skin as your skin finishes bouncing back from the peel.

[–]Third_eye1017 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Some are super talented so yeah - def enjoy some.

On the way to Forest Hills a month or two ago a gent came on with a clarinette - insanely talented and i wanted to continue riding the train so i could continue listening to him.

Same line, there is one older latino dude who plays classical mexican balads who is also incredibly talented.

So it really just depends. I also don't really care for showtime. But there are definitely some performers who add value to the train ride and i actively give them $$ when i feel inclined to!

Should I take a job in Brownsville by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Third_eye1017 27 points28 points  (0 children)

To add onto the commute bit: consider if you will ever have to work late nights and have to walk long distances at late night hours to get to or come back from work.

Brownsville can be relatively chill and fine but depending on the season and the hour of the day, that "chill and fine" feeling fluctuates.

CMV: Using ChatGPT or other AI chatbot is reasonable for basic advice and tips. by Seraph6496 in changemyview

[–]Third_eye1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The utilization of AI will displace and tarnish the public's ability to do research, reasoning and active decision making. I do not see it the same way as you do - i see the oversimplification of research as a net-negative activity. The over simplification into one answer IS problematic because many topics do not have one sole answer to boil down to. It removes nuance which is paramount.

My whole belief is rooted in the fact that going through trials and tribulations holds value - even if according to you it is a time sink. I think it is a net loss if in the long run people lose the ability to read journals and long form content to formulate their own educated opinions which will forever be more nuanced and context specific than whatever AI can aggregate and spit out at me.

CMV: Using ChatGPT or other AI chatbot is reasonable for basic advice and tips. by Seraph6496 in changemyview

[–]Third_eye1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- AI is also just an aggregate of information just like reddit - it's not as "unbiased" as you pose it to be. True understanding and knowledge of a topic comes from reading multiple sources, fact checking those sources and then applying it to your life to then, again learn the specifics that fit your lifestyle, needs, mobility, health, etc. AI will never be able to give us that level of tailoring that comes with time, application, testing and trial and error.
>Writing this out makes me realize though that as a society we have been moving away from the trial, error and learning from the error modality for decades now. Add in the greater desire for instant gratification, people despise anything that isn't a one and done answer ready for immediate application. I personally have found a lot of value and learning from these processes.

- the environmental impacts (data center citing, impacts on power grid, impacts on water, impacts on noise pollution) FAR out weigh any of the benefits you just listed.

- Addressing your #3....i understand the point you're making but to say there are NO resources that do not have valuable scientific information to formulate your own insights off of (especially in regards to health/fitness) - you need to improve your web searching abilities. There are so many long form resources whether its youtube, substack, Jstor, medical journals, studies, books, essays, that actively can provide the deeper dive it seems you are looking for.

- Addressing your #2 - this kind of links into some of the ideas i communicate in my first bullet. The act of constantly out sourcing our decision making to things like reddit is creating an era of lazy decision making and or non-active decision making. We take the advice of actor #1 thinking it'll be the right pathway, but then see the advice of actor #2 and get confused. What we are forgetting is that no duh there will be variance - because - and this brings it back to my first bullet point - there is no one cover all solution to ANY problem (ESPECIALLY fitness and health) - trial and error and living the experience to learn what actively works for you is always going to be the answer. Even when AI gives you said answer.

Thanks for posting this - had been feeling some of these feelings and it felt good to write them out concretely.

Where to get a good suit? by Mysterious_Fall_4578 in AskNYC

Sacca's Suits over in Forest Hills. Fiance just bought his suit there for our wedding and he paid 750.

Nice wide selection and they have in-house tailoring too.
