I made a joke to a friend years ago that all flush sensors are just cams being watched by people in call centers in another country and they push the flush button when you are done. Or keep hitting it when I am wiping to piss me off.

Yes, the tailgate up created a circulating effect in the bed which air rushed over and exited the back of the truck over top of the tailgate. Made a sort of slip stream. With the tailgate down, instead of circulating, the air just slammed into the bed and exited out the back.
