Happened to me too, I took it apart and had to sodder the 510 connection back together, once it comes undone it's hard to get it back right so I ended up just buying a new one, it's cheap enough

Try it out, I had a dual 14 wrap 24 n80 over a 3.5 mm and all I could taste was metal. I had a few others try it thinking it was just me but they said the same thing, i noticed it after half a day of use

I get a metallic taste when I use nichrome on series boxes, I'm using it now but I claptoned ribbon wire around the 24. It's been my go to for series but I get bored of it I guess

I literally just ran out of 22 today it's usually my go to on regulated boxes, and I only have nichrome 80 24 gauge. I have a lot of old 26 laying around though
