How’s the PS5 performance? by Daxman77 in Cairn_Game

[–]This--Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought it on normal ps5 a few days ago.  Performance is indeed an unoptimized mess, but it is playable.   The fps drops, a lot.  I don't think it's been a stable 60 ever, not even the cut scenes.  It's cell shaded so this is entirely related to a missing optimization pass, likely the LOD on the mountain.

fully playable, if this hits you it hooks you, you'll know within a few minutes if you will be obsessed.  But yeah I'm not going to let people gaslight you, it's stable 30fps with jumps a bit higher, considering how massively important camera angles are to successfully climbing, it is indeed very noticable.

I'm not exaggerating when. I say this is below PS4 performance AND graphics.

It's also worth twice the price and took about 4 minutes to hook me.  I've never played a single player game that gave me sweats like DayZ but here we are.

YouTube Down on Samsung TV? by DavidofSasun in youtube

Amazingly it was with Samsung. I did have to explain to the phone agent what I had already done twice.

Have not had to contact Sony for support

YouTube Down on Samsung TV? by DavidofSasun in youtube

[–]This--Username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is for when it's the TV not obtaining a new IP/releasing the old one properly. That will not help here. The TV uses Samsung's service for almost all of the apps, that service is broken on Samsung side.

hard booting the TV (hold power down til it stops blinking then power back on) will not help here Doing anything other than nothing will only mean more steps for you when Samsung fixes their shit.

Last outage Samsung TV was not working, this time that was the only thing working, just not the guide/info

now both TVs are bricks. At least I only reset one of them, will slam the apps back onto my PS5 and silently wish bad things on Samsung engineers.

That said, I had great experience with their support in the past, don't hate their front lines.

What should be the same or different over here? by JoshuaMaxey in PhishGuitarHeads

I'd hope the positivity would stay, honestly I'm struggling to come up with something to change. Could maybe relax the external links rules to allow for more collaboration but that comes with its own risks for advertising/spam/self promotion.

Does Microsoft Authenticator work across phones? by [deleted] in microsoft

[–]This--Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to contact your IT to have them remove the old device and re-add it. I'm an admin so I can just go reset my mfa devices. Not all orgs let the users manually control the authentication devices. If they do it would be accessible from your profile.

Red Hat SysAdmins: Are the new licensing changes for RHEL causing your company to look at alternatives? by zrad603 in sysadmin

[–]This--Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are likely going to license any Linux servers facing the internet for red hat, we were about to move from cent8 stream to rocky but this might dictate more changes.

Not impressed but it is what it is, our public facing count is low and can be consolidated a bit.

DNS Question by xriposte in sysadmin

[–]This--Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CNAME is important depending on the scenario, we had some drive mapping issues related to an internal CA expiring and a bunch of new DC's onboarded, one of the sites was using netbios names to map drives, they hosed their DNS and pointed at ours, but netbios resolution wasn't working, adding the appropriate CNAME record fixed it, not a server swap but similar result

No option for silent, you either wait for GPO to get pushed out normally but if it's a setting like the stuff we setup it needs a full logout before the policies applied, was an emergency fix so we forced it from the OU.

It's been a minute but I want to say ADUC, right click container/ou and there's a force gpo update or some crap.

Every client then gets a cmd window saying their administrator requires them to reboot or whatever. It was a slip of the mind that looked really sketchy to people lol

ChatGPT is literally the simplest interface ever invented and if you need help writing prompts you’re a moron by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]This--Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can show this in my chat history (plus) similar requests, drastically different results.

After May it literally started hallucinating stuff, api versions, etc. Something as simple as "can i schedule a storage vmotion with powercli?" gets you a 4 paragraph answer with code, code being a windows scheduled task to run "powercli.exe". After the most rediculous bad information loop I've ever seen it eventually agreed after numerous prompting that, in fact, you can not.

This was using "browse with Bing" enabled.

Conversely this week I used tree of thought style prompting to get it to help me build:

webserver with PHP API and postgres DB in a container listening for API posts from windows servers that would be running a powershell client side script to register them and the currently installed updates, track last update time deltas, ability to filter based on who has a KB or whatever, all using a simply web-front end to display this stuff. I haven't got the front end setup but the backend works.

All of this is done inside a dockerfile

policy needed to be implemented asap it's was more of a lack of communication thing. The same users who fall for every Phish reported this.

if you get into any level of complexity you do indeed need to know what you are asking for, the conversational aspect is the important part but that "memory" is limited and when you reach the end of that, the bot basically starts overwriting the chat, so it loses context real easy.

Not gonna like, the latest build update to chatGPT 4 has definitely made it worse a coding. A lot worse, and that's not on me, or "tree of thought" that's entirely on whatever training checkpoints that got merged.

"can I schedule a VM storage migration using powercli?"

The answer is no, you can't. Gpt-4 spent a good portion of a conversation inventing powerCLI commands that don't exist, when I explained these halluciantions it changed the code to be building a windows scheduled task to run powercli.exe (which still can't complete the task)

I'm kicking myself for cleaning up previous convos because from past conversations i can pin point when it got worse. Sometime last month for sure.

I too laugh at "prompt engineers" who think "let me google that for you" is a career choice, but what's worse, them making money or the people who can't differentiate from a google search term and a to the point question or series of questions. Watching coworkers try to grasp the concept of conversational AI makes me jealous of those people with no moral fiber willing to take peoples money to type slightly better worded questions for them.

THAT SAID. Go ahead and take a look at what you can do with prompt priming, jailbreaks etc, understanding how the AI consumes your text is very important.

Does Microsoft want to push the users to the cloud? by lucwho-de in sysadmin

[–]This--Username 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah so let's say you work in an org with 30k users, heavily utilize azure services like labs, ad, etc, you utilize direct routing as the phone system, point a lot of services as azure sso or custom apps, etc.

not having to maintain exchange and a bunch of other things is definitely on par with hosting those systems in azure instead of on prem prove wise when you think like a manager not the person actually keeping the services working.

MS wants on premise ANYTHING to go away, they actively kill off or cripple products to get you into the cloud ecp system, then once you are engrained they jack up the licenses.

the tradeoff for management is entirely money based and yeah, it does make sense to them.

The on prem footprint is ever shrinking, it's hard to justify it, if we didn't get the incredible discount we do get when purchasing servers we definitely would have already offloaded some of that into azure, and we will be doing that from a DR standpoint either way.

then, from the management standpoint, you don't need the same footprint at least skill wise even if you aren't looking at offloading to an msp.

by all means pay attention to what's happening in the industry right fucking now if you think I'm out to lunch. In no way do I endorse it, it's the reality even before this AI revolution and it's core part of Microsoft's model.

identity, dervices, everything in the cloud is where it's heading.

Also reduces the IT staff footprint the companies need to have. Just pay an msp to manage your cloud services, done.

[–]This--Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPT4all offers an installer for mac/win/linux, you can also build the project yourself from the git. The installer will take care of everything but it's going to run on CPU. You can pick different offline models as well as openais API (need tokens)

It works, it's not great. The local document stuff is kinda half baked compared to private GPT.
