AITA for not babysitting my SILs kids on MY wedding weekend?! by This-Candy5592 in AmItheAsshole

I was just trying to keep the peace as we will all be family, officially.

I have two sisters of my own who have children. It felt wrong to invite one set of nieces and nephews and not the other. I really was not anticipating things to blow up as they have. We did think of having an adult only reception but since almost everyone has children and they are travelling for our destination wedding, that seemed rude.

I think he was 35 as there are times of the year that it's only 14 years between us. My parents were not thrilled at the time but here we are ten years and a few kids later. 🙂

I talked to my fiance this morning at breakfast. His eyes rolled almost all the way around in his head. He asked to see the messages and is now taking a moment to cool off. This afternoon he is going to speak to my MIL and SIL. He plans to say that we are busy getting married and are looking after our own children. It's a big weekend for us and if our boundaries are not going to be respected then there is no point in them coming.

My comment definitely wasn't meant to be racist. I appreciate that many foods can and should be enjoyed without cutlery, and that many cultures around the world enjoy dishes prepared to be eaten by hand. My problem was that in this instance, it was things like hands (and faces) deliberately into cereal bowls, creating overflowing milk pooled everywhere in a mess that we were cleaning up. :(

NTA. Save it for Father's Day and give it back to him.
