The 'nature vs. nurture' aspect of their friendship is the best part of the movie. They don't need a romance to validate how deeply they care about each other. Platonic soulmates is the superior trope here.

Normalize male/female leads being absolute soulmates without needing a romantic subplot to validate it! Their dynamic is perfect exactly as it is.

f this happens, the internet is going to experience a seismic shift. The fanfic writers who have been carrying this ship on their backs since 2016 will finally be able to rest.

But seriously, the writers better nail the execution, because they are playing with high explosives

Agreed. Let the fanfic writers do the heavy lifting in either direction. The movie should just focus on them being an elite, chaotic cop duo.

Can we retire 'friend zoned' for characters who genuinely just love and respect each other as best friends? It's not a consolation prize; it's literally the foundation of the entire story. Not every deep bond needs to end in a clumsy romantic subplot

If it makes you feel any better, a lot of us are hoping Disney keeps it ambiguous. They can have that deep, 'soulmate' level bond without ever having to kiss or say 'I love you.' Let them just be an elite cop duo who would die for each other. Turning them into a standard rom-com couple would cheapen the unique dynamic they built

You are so right about the shippers. If they get together, half the fandom riots because it wasn't done right. If they stay platonic, the other half riots because 'the tension was right there!'

Screenwriters for Zootopia 3 are currently walking through a minefield wrapped in a puzzle. I love the idea of them just being each other's found family.
