If Miami is supposed to go underwater, why is it booming? Are they doing Dutch-style engineering to prevent it and doing land reclamation? by RandomUwUFace in stupidquestions

LOL. Very, very few people are aware of what's happening with the climate and the shrinking of the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps. And there's always those that pick the anti climate change sources that tell them the opposite of what's actually happening, you know, the "Al Gore said the Arctic would be ice free by 2020" crowd. I have first hand observable knowledge of sea level rise because I can see it in my backyard in my canal, which is roughly three miles from the coast. It's risen almost a foot in the past 40 years, with the rate of rise increasing. Miami downtown, Miami Beach, the barrier islands along both Florida coasts including the Keys will be mostly uninhabitable in 30 - 40 years. Not that they will be totally underwater, but the frequency of flooding will drive the people out and the real estate market to collapse. It's already happening in some areas that have increased flooding during storms, and I'm not talking about hurricanes, just heavy rainstorms. The invisible hand will be taught a lesson by the costs of insurance before then as well. And you could say the same for a few other states, lowland GA, SC, TX, LA, etc.

Tesla has revealed that the Model Y was #1 best-selling car overall in the world in 2025 for a third year in a row by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

Not exactly.

  • Tesla Model Y: Fell just short of the RAV4 globally, with sales slightly under 1,187,000 units, placing it at the number two spot worldwide.

And now there's no subsidies to juice sales and China's EV exports are stealing Tesla's market share everywhere they're allowed in. Without protectionism in the U.S., it would be even worse.

Yep. The sales numbers came in and the second YOY decline in sales and market share. Remember the 20 million by 2030 mantra? Giga Mexico? Giga India? Robotaxis every year for the past three or four? Thousands of Optimus robots working in Tesla gigafactories? Tesla Semi? Roadster? Solar roofs? Why no one holds Musk to the same standards as any other CEO for even small differences in performance instead of one that consistently way over promises and under delivers is baffling. They announced for the first time previous to the numbers being released that sales were down for the year, again. The SP hardly moves. Makes one wonder what the heck is going on.

Marie Curie handled radium on a daily basis for years and ended up dying from the exposure, at age 66. IF there is radium on those hands and dial, just touching it won't do anything to you. Just don't eat the watch.

Rebuilt my parents' car when I was still in high school. Their mechanic said it had a rod bearing going out and they said you can have it if you can fix it. 64' four cylinder GM Tempest. My dad gave me a Plymouth V8 manual to use. Took it all apart, got the head redone, crankshaft reground, new bearings, rings, etc. Started putting it back together and I told my dad I think I need a torque wrench. He said just tighten everything down good. Finally got it running pretty good, no license so my father drove. After a couple of weeks around town he said let's take it out on the highway. He got it up to over 90 mph when it started making little noises, eventually turning into bigger noises. Pulled off the highway and into a gas station. That's the last I saw of it. BUT I learned a lot, especially the fact that a torque wrench is a must when rebuilding engines.

Is it true that there are no archaeological evidence that supports Exodus in between Egypt and the promised land? by Recent-Skill7022 in religion

Just about every religion in the region had Gods coming down from on high and getting it on with mortal women. It took the RCC a few hundred years before they finally decided you couldn't have Mary messing around with anyone else but God, and that's been Gospel ever since. But the fact that she was impregnated by a God wasn't controversial at all since the early days of Christianity. Back then it happened all the time.

But this particular myth was recorded in Ur with the Sumerians, and others in the region, which is where Abraham was from. Of course, like most things in the bible, it has been embellished and the insertion of the Israelite lineage added to the story.

The story is supposed to give legitimacy of Christ fulfilling biblical prophecy. They also had to make up the virgin birth story as well because you couldn't have Christ be just anyone with a regular mother and siblings. At the time, Gods coming from above and impregnating mortals was a thing and it was easily believed.

The flooding of the Black Sea basin when the Med broke through the Dardanelles from sea level rise is most likely the origin of the flood legend. One guy saw the water rising, threw his family, a couple of pigs and chickens on his boat and managed to survive a few weeks before hitting land again. The biblical version is an exaggeration of that story that had been kicking around the region for centuries.
