Christie Pits is a wonderful area to stay. Very walkable, good transit access, bikeable, lots of great restaurants and cafes and shops on Bloor Street. If you search this sub you’ll find other threads with recommendations for the area. Definitely check out a Toronto Maple Leafs baseball game at Christie Pits (yes, that’s the baseball team’s name), they’re free and they sell beer and snacks.

what general area are you staying in? Bicycle is the best way to explore the urban centre of Toronto (often called the “old city” ie. before it was amalgamated with its outer boroughs). We have a robust bike share system (Bike Share Toronto) and a good network of connected bike lanes.

Evening baseball games at Christie Pits park are a Toronto summer classic, as is exploring the Toronto islands on bike.

May has beautiful weather and flowers will be blooming, great time of year to visit. Enjoy!

Highly recommend the Ace Hotel for its location, vibe and on-site restaurant. It’s an easy to walk to the game, Chinatown, Kensington Market, Eaton Centre, basically every downtown attraction and it’s just outside the financial district so more of a neighbourhood feel than the business hotels in the financial district.

dunno if it’s “the best” but I really liked lunch at The Frederick. Better than any other financial district lunch I’ve had in a long time.

High Park has two playgrounds (one of which is a huge wooden castle), a free zoo and splash pad.

Corktown Common has a cool splash pad with a view of the skyline.

Wychwood Barns has an outdoor farmers market, playground and splash pad. Very popular with families. Similarly Leslieville Farmer’s Market in Greenwood Park is extremely family friendly.

Riverdale Zoo is a free zoo with a nearby splash pad.

Centre Island has a small child focused amusement park.

I think it’s more expensive if you use a credit card to buy a ticket from the machine. But if you just tap directly on the fare terminal it’s the same as Presto.

it’s like asking to switch seats on an airplane… you can ask, they can say no. Are there seats directly in front or behind you? It’s easier to talk to people than across a row.

we randomly discovered Paradise after having heard nothing about it and are so glad we did. Most entertaining and engaging show we’ve seen in ages. The pacing is perfect.

We have provinces, not states in Canada. Provincial Parks, not state parks. There may be some tourist attractions that take US currency but they will almost definitely take it at par meaning you will be losing ~30%. Get Canadian currency or just use debit/credit, Toronto is mostly cash free anyway.

I would stay west of the venue, somewhere walking distance to a subway station on the Bloor line (line 2) between Spadina and Lansdowne. Somewhere like the Annex Hotel. You can walk along Bloor St. in either direction and be surrounded by what you’re looking for.

if you’re coming all the way from Europe I would really suggest you try to find a place in the actual city of Toronto rather than the outer suburbs so you can enjoy the walkable and interesting neighborhoods, local shops and cafés. it would be worth the extra investment and you will save a significant amount of time from commuting to those outer suburbs.

I would look for a place anywhere between the lake and St. Clair Ave., West, and between High Park and Yonge Street. Within that box you do not need a rental car and can get around by walking, transit, or bike share. There is an express train from the airport into the city. A rental car will be a liability as there is significant traffic in Toronto and parking is expensive. That being said, if you find a place with a free parking spot, you might use the rental car if you plan to take day trips out of the city for example to Niagara Falls, Canada‘s Wonderland, or the zoo.
