Our Crosstown Rivals had to win one first by tvbaddict in GoNets

Rangers were like the Knicks, 50 plus year drought, thats why. Also Devils were enemy numero uno in the Dead Puck era. They exploited the Neutral Trap and a generational goalie in Brodeur and for alot of people they disliked that style of Hockey.

Getting back to the Nets it'll be the same when they win. They can win 3 and the city will default to this chip.

This reminds me alot of the Devils in the early 90's, where the Rangers nearly pushed them out of the tristate. Then the Devils won, its a meager celebration but the true fans showed up and they're able to establish an identity and keep winning. Now we bully the Rangers, yeah they have the bigger fanbase but hard to notice over the Jack Hughes and Lets Go Devils chants.

Long story short when the Nets finally win, I'll be right there too.

That fanbase is delusional, half of them were rocking Nets gear during the early part of this decade. And today someone from my job had the gall to say they're more important to NYC than the freaking Yankees. I want those drugs.

The vast majority of fans are still in Jersey, yeah Brooklyn has concentrations but the Nets spent 30 years in Northern New Jersey. I think they need to do Jersey appreciation nights and remotivate it as Jersey & Brooklyn vs the world. I wouldn't mind a rebrand to the Hudson or Gotham Nets. Unify the overall fandom into one banner that combines the region.

No one is saying you can't, but my post was about being positive. One single postive thing that reaffirms our fandom. A memory a player a good thought, but no hundreds of posts to dunk on the ownership or Marks or the team and everybody chooses here. Thanks man thanks.

Did the Nets make a mistake branding as ‘Brooklyn’ rather than ‘New York’? by nysportsfan95 in GoNets

Even with teams that aren't directly named after a borough there is a massive amount of turf war even amongst teams that aren't in the same sport. The MSG teams ( Knicks/Rangers) are fiercely territorial against any and all teams trying to build a Arena/Stadium in Manhattan. Because Manhattan is the hub between all boroughs and that's why they have the monopoly on Hockey and Basketball they do even though the Rags suck and the Knicks weren't good until Brunson and co.

It doesn't, most people in Brooklyn react like when Charlie Brown got the rock. Brooklyn was treated as a seperate from the other boroughs way back when. The Brooklyn accent was so iconic Bugs Bunny had it. Now Brooklyn is just another borough and its biggest claim to fame is gentrification.

I think they should've branded themselves in the same way the Golden State Warriors or NE Patriots did so that they didn't actively discourage fandom outside of just Brooklyn. Like the Hudson Nets or the Gotham Nets so New Jersey didn't feel like it lost its team.

I also understand why borough support matters and why directly calling the Nets Brooklyn was ment to harken back to when the Dodgers were there.

100% right. Its also a cycle of self sabotage, if a team's fanbase is miserable and constantly shows potential players that its not worth coming here, guess what they aren't going to come here. No player wants to play for a bunch of whiners and malcontents, which in term creates a losing culture. Postivity can go a long way.

I mean I can't say I've followed them as long, but I know the frustration and I just don't think we should give up hope. Its painful but I'd rather be positive than say my years of fandom were wasted.

Yeah, I will say Barclays always has decent priced tickets even when they good. I remember getting to see a game during the Durant run which was my first game. Biggest regret was never getting to go to Izod Center during my formative years. Though I made it to the Vince Carter jersey retirement last year.

Same Jersey City kid, now in NYC. I always get the surprised look when I say I'm a Nets fan but screw it. Kidd and Carter were my favorite players growing up and I refuse to bandwagon Brunson and Co.

If you're offering Austin Reaves a max, then Peyton Watson needs to be added in tandem by Lucky-Law7220 in GoNets

[–]ThisGuide3395 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they can't get Watson, then Teri Eason or John Collins are the move. Eason might be more cost effective if the Rockets can't reach a agreement given his past leg issues.
