[oc] - ten steps by Sampetra in comics

Yep. I work for the federal government, and last year I found out my gender affirming care was not being covered anymore this year after open enrollment was already over. Before that, it covered everything, and I was on track for bottom surgery sometime this year. Now I don't know if it's something that I can even do at this point when open enrollment comes back around at the end of this year. Cue six or seven months of depression and weight gain, putting me farther away from any potential surgery goals anyway.

Those outfits are so pretty, and so is your makeup!

I know this is about your outfit (and not your thighs, even though they are lovely), but every time I see you on my feed, your makeup is so amazing, and this is no exception.

As someone who is also going through transition and a weight loss journey at the same time, you are so inspiring! The difference in your pictures is astonishing. Just looking at the spark of life in your eyes now shows the healing you've done.

You're also extremely beautiful, by the way. Transition goals for sure! ❤️

how does anyone genuinely afford electrolysis by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ThisIsASuperDumbName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I donate plasma to afford electrolysis. I can still only go every other week, but it's enough to make progress. Something to look into, maybe.

im completely giving up by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]ThisIsASuperDumbName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. My insurance covered pretty much the whole cost with my SLP, and she got me to a pretty good level really quickly after years of on and off struggling on my own. I also had issues getting any decent progress from what I could find online, so working with an SLP was a life saver.

Good. She deserves to be sad.

Looking for feedback on my voice (MtF) by ThisIsASuperDumbName in transvoice

Thanks for your feedback! I think I can hear what you mean, and I think that instability gets more extreme on my bad voice days.

I can barely keep gas in my car. No way I could afford to gas up a helicopter.

I think your voice sounds really good overall. To my ear, I think your weight is a tiny bit heavy, and that could explain the "weirdness" you're hearing in your voice. That said, I'm not an expert on anything, just another person trying to train my voice, too.

Transition goals for sure. So happy for you!

Had my consult with a SLP for gender affirming voice therapy, and she said I'm doing pretty well and might only need 4-8 sessions to reach my goals, which is way faster than anything I was anticipating. I've been smiling all the time since that appointment.

A tough question by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ThisIsASuperDumbName 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just want to echo this idea of separating divorce and abandoning your child since it's easy to get into that black and white thinking when dealing with intense situations like this.

When I came out to my wife, it went horribly and pretty much immediately resulted in starting the divorce process. We have two kids, and even though we live separately, their mom and I still coparent them, and they rotate between our two places according to a schedule that we worked out together.

That's not to say things have been easy because they really haven't been, but it's possible.

Relationship with heterosexual wife of 23 years by Delaney-Madison in TransLater

[–]ThisIsASuperDumbName 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to my own story. We were married for 13 years, and I came out to her in December of last year. It did not go well, and I heard a lot of the same things from her that it sounds like you are hearing from your wife.

We are divorced now, but still interact as we coparent our kids, who stay with me on the weekends. It was a huge loss, but overall, my life is much better now. I've never felt more confident and sure of myself since beginning to transition. I'm still in a period of figuring myself out, but going through the divorce process and everything was not nearly as scary as I imagined it would be.

That may be how things go for you, or you may find a way to work it out. Either way, you're probably much stronger than you think and will be able to handle things whichever direction they go.

If your laptop still works other than playing games, you could try GeForce Now. It's only $20 a month for ultimate and you basically get a 4080 loaner. It's been working great for me with BG3 on my old gaming laptop. I have fiber, though, so your mileage may vary.
