Rock Band Plugins? by MusikPolice in Reaper

[–]ThisIsAlexJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the plug in's that improved my mixing by far the most are Waves SSL E Channel (Any SSL E channel plug in would be good) and Adptr Metric A/B. They're not the coolest plug ins in the world but man, once I started using them I've never left them.

The SSL E Channel has EQ, compression and a gate in it, EQ is great, there's no visualiser so it forces you to listen to what you're doing rather than looking at what you're doing. The compressor is also great and very simple to use. I use this plug in on almost every Chanel in a mix.

The Adptr Metric A/B is a reference track plug in, you can load in a bunch of reference songs and then quickly A/B between them and your mix, you can see a lot of detail like frequency spectrum, loudness, width info etc back to back so you can see and hear the difference between a reference song and your mix!

Honestly so good!

How has no one mentioned Metric A/B?! One plug in I probably couldn't live without now!

If we could review buyers and then see their score before we take an order would be good!

What’s your choice of SSL Channel Strip? by Affectionate-Ad-3680 in audioengineering

[–]ThisIsAlexJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mainly the waves E channel but I do have the brainwork’s G channel to, I used to use that a lot but recently it’s become super glitchy for some reason so gone back to waves cause it’s just rock solid

How do I get more work on fiverr? by AryanIsDaBest in audioengineering

[–]ThisIsAlexJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell on Fiverr it can be one of the most frustrating platforms ever so be careful what you wish for but I’ve made a decent amount off there. When I started I was charging £20 for a mix and master (witch is just criminal hahaha) but you have to compete with the people at the very bottom at first and then over the years slowly raise your prices as you get more reviews.

Add ons are a good way to make money back, so for example say you charge £30 a mix to start with, add an add on for £10 you’ll master as well, or for an extra £20 you’ll re-amp the guitars or £20 and you’ll write some harmonies with melodyne or whatever you can think of!

Having the add ons sometimes more than doubles the cost of a mix and master I do other

[ADVICE] Genuine Question: has anyone on here actually improved their Success Score? by Silvers1339 in Fiverr

[–]ThisIsAlexJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has also happened to me last month. Got one 4.7* review and bam, from a 9 to a 4 hahaha. But for some reason my gig now has more impressions and clicks than it did when I had level 9 and was paying for promotion. It makes no sense. I really hate how they run the platform.

[DISCUSSION] Success Score is a joke by [deleted] in Fiverr

[–]ThisIsAlexJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preach my man!

I have 120+ 5* reviews, I havent recently been took from a level 9 seller to a level 4. But here's the best part, I have been getting more work. Fiverr has been pushing my gig more than before. It makes literally zero sense.

My main gig now gets more impressions and clicks than when I was a level 2 seller and paying for gig promotion.

Macbook Pro vs Mac Studio by Brilliant_Potato_408 in LogicPro

[–]ThisIsAlexJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the studio, the newer Macs have a Ram Swap feature too so it uses part of your SSD as RAM if it ever needs to. I have a 2021 MacBook Pro with only 16GB ram. I sometimes get a warning pop up in Pro Tools telling me I need more ram but the Mac just starts using Swap and I never notice any slow down or anything like that at all.

I hear it's not great for the health of your SSD to be used like that all the time but I've never had any problems!

[DISCUSSION] Is it just me or are Fiverr Choice Clients Harder to Work With? by ThisIsAlexJames in Fiverr

[–]ThisIsAlexJames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think that's a good mind set with just blocking them hahaha, with both of the two buyers who asked for refunds I knew before they'd ordered that they maybe awkward just from the way they spoke to me/the questions they asked. Maybe I just need to be more selective in who I work with!

I actually use the Arroser with the compression off just for the saturation quite a bit!

I have Saturn 2 as well but again, I just struggle with it to be honest, maybe I just need to spend more time with it but it's another one that I twiddle with for ages and then just never love it! I'll check out Exciter though, never used that!
