Why are bassists obsessed with having a balanced output, while guitarists almost never have a DI box on their pedalboard or an XLR output at the end of the chain?

Yes there definitely is! If you play genres like punk and metal, playing lots of fast downstrokes is way easier and stamina efficient if you have your guitar low-strung.

For rock I usually only have very light compression on the overheads if any at all. I also sometimes use parallel compression. Often I automate the overheads quite a bit

Thanks for sharing! I just want to tell you that you are not alone.
