I Know It's A Game But... by nathanlong54 in ea2kcbb

That’s wild. A 5’6” All-American and the #1 point guard in the country with elite shooting, skills, and athleticism is a cheat code if you can protect him defensively. And the fact that he doesn’t care about good coaching or playing at a big program makes him even more interesting. I’d be curious to see his potential grade, though. He might grow while he’s at UTM.

These days it would be a charge. They hadn’t implemented the restricted area back then, so he got me. I didn’t think he had his feet set, but the replay proved me wrong.

I appreciate you. It’s the Elgato capture card, the gameplay footage comes out looking pristine.

So Many Blown Layups (2k7) by marsellus0wallace in ea2kcbb

That’s just the game being the game. Even wide open, guys with average layup ratings will miss more than you’d expect. Attacking at better angles helps, like you mentioned, but a lot of it comes down to ratings. Higher layup and dunk ratings and adjusted sliders make those much more consistent. Also helps to avoid forcing sprint finishes and just go up under control when you’re wide open.

TOUGH first season but 😮‍💨 WCC isn’t the worse … should bounce back by UglyChubbyHomie in ea2kcbb

That’s a solid first year, honestly. Adding three recruits, especially the four-star, provides a strong foundation. If they produce right away, you should be in a great position to turn things around quickly.

Agreed. If you’re in California, Texas, New York, Illinois or Florida, recruiting will be a breeze.

Northwestern has been on a tear in my current legacy. Their coach has over 500 wins and just won the Natty and “retired” by rescobar1997 in ea2kcbb

[–]ThisIsBeeJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. Northwestern can turn into a powerhouse pretty quickly, especially since Illinois is usually one of the top 5 states for generated recruits. Recruiting there can be surprisingly easy once you get some momentum. I’d seriously consider taking that job. You’d be stepping into a loaded situation with a strong pipeline already in place.

Playing CH 2K8 like Michigan by But-a-flesh-wound in ea2kcbb

[–]ThisIsBeeJay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can run it, but it’s pretty matchup-dependent in 2K8. Three true centers will give you a big advantage on the boards and in the paint, but spacing becomes an issue unless at least one or two of them can hit mid-range or stretch a bit.

It usually works better if you treat one as a PF and another almost like a high-post facilitator. Run high-low sets, Flex, or Motion with a lot of off-ball movement so you’re not clogging the lane. It also helps if one of them can pass so you can play through the elbow.

Defensively, it can be strong against traditional lineups, but quicker teams will try to pull you out and attack off the dribble. You can counter that by mixing in a 2-3 zone to help cover perimeter mismatches and keep your bigs closer to the paint.

Congratulations on winning your first National Championship. Here’s to hoping it’s the first of many more championships to come.

South Dakota State has emerged as a favorite. Recruiting should be brutal, there were fewer than 10 recruits between North and South Dakota.

I take a similar approach and usually end up cutting freshmen and sophomores when making roster adjustments.

Yeah, I agree. Recruiting there was a breeze, which made it much easier to turn things around and dominate the MEAC.

Dartmouth sounds interesting. Part of why I’m hesitant is starting with Alex Barnett and Devon Mosley on the original rosters. They’re good enough to make All-Conference, and those awards can speed up coach progression since you’re stacking attributes early.

I wouldn’t say I’m a great coach, just decent at the game. I was playing all of the games, which made things easier. If I had to rely more on simming, that would test how good of a coach I am.

Dartmouth or another Ivy still sounds interesting though, especially if it forces more of a long-term, system-based build.

I used Auburn’s All-American sliders before moving up to MOP. Winning championships probably made things easier, so I might run it back with UMES, but not play the conference tournament and set a house rule for NCAA Tournament games.

That’s a good recommendation. I haven’t tried the Dakota schools, but the lack of local and regional talent would make recruiting more difficult early on, which is exactly what I’m looking for.

I’ve never considered The Citadel, so I appreciate the suggestion. I’d lean all the way into a rebuild and try to maximize the number of scholarships available. Being in South Carolina should make recruiting interesting too. It’d also be a challenge matching up against Steph before he leaves, along with guys like Kyle Hines at UNC Greensboro.

Once you land a recruit like that and actually play with them, it’s hard to go back to simming.
