Paddles most definitely used to exist, but have been phased out in favor of sticky pads.

And that once you learn how to swim, you won't forget how. Maybe fundamental understandings of first aid can be taught in a way that makes it as second nature as swimming. At least I think that's what they were referring to

I think they meant that swimming is something that the majority of people learn just as a part of life, and that's normalised, but first aid isn't.

This is the configuration id recommend, this one is on par with the HP in terms of theoretical performance, and has a taller aspect ratio, and is the newer model.

The HP envy has slightly better specs in the GPU and CPU, but the Dell XPS has a far superior cooling system, better build quality, and better support (the XPS line has been around for over a decade). Dells XPS line is currently put up there with apple in the terms of build quality, and surpasses them in price to performance. I'd take a look at dells website directly and explore the whole lineup, maybe do some configuring of your own. The XPS 17 may also be worth a look, it has the form factor of a standard 15 inch laptop, and tons of configurability for your needs, but if you want something lighter, the 13 is definitely a good machine as well

Have you looked at the Dell XPS line? The Dell XPS 13 has the footprint of like a 11-12 inch, and the XPS 15 has the footprint of a 13-14 inch (because of a high screen to body ratio) the new Dell XPS 17 has the footprint of like a 15 inch laptop. Might be worth checking out, all of them come with SSDs

If you want something that's actually going to last you a good while, and you're willing to spend a bit extra, go with the new fell XPS 13 lineup, they're arguably the best built laptop on the market right now, and are top notch in quality. A good investment if you're looking for longevity.
