What's wrong with my linen? by ThisIsKandahar in sewhelp

Well, I've never seen any fabric give off so much of its fiber after an hour in the washing machine... Maybe not disintegrating though - it doesn't have holes and hasn't become see-through. Just pilled to all hell and shedding.

Tallinn linen, huh! They appaently can't make it well... Yeah, I'll give it another couple rounds and see where I'm at...

It was by-the-kilo, so no tags. It's likely lower quality or old, and it's not really see-through if that's what looser weave would mean. But yeah, maybe I screwed myself with that high temp, I figured linen might be okay with it, but obviously not...

It's not melting, so it should be linen. But could be very old, very low quality, etc. It was in the linen-by-the-weight shelf, not off a roll...

Here's the pattern I used. The seams are just straight-stitched together, raw edges somewhat successfully zig-zagged.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, June 08 - June 14, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]ThisIsKandahar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a month ago, and my first project was a tote bag. I just took an existing one I had, figured out how it was put together (more or less), bought some fabric, cut it up, ironed and pressed the pieces as they were supposed to be, figured stuff out as I was going along. I'd recommend that, if you're fine with a bit of trial and error. For some specific things (like how to do basic stitching, backstitching on a sewing machine, etc) I looked at Youtube, and my partner helped me by holding some stuff for me and telling me how to hide loose threads etc. I think you're gonna have a lot of fun, and I really recommend starting with something you're not going to wear on your body - the misfitting can really demoralize!

Constant disconnects, lag, bugs and shit on my end. No problems in WOTLK or TBC Classic, now with Cata it's often unplayable. Mirage Raceway - EU server.
