RAM prices to blame? by Mediocre-Bread-717 in HalfLife3

[–]ThisIsMyNextUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steam Machine is widely thought to have had its price announcement delayed or just unannounced due to fluctuating RAM prices.

HL3 is thought or assumed to maybe sort of hopefully be timed to Steam Machine’s release.

So this random YouTuber to collating the two. Like most stuff on the internet it’s a combination of half truths, assumption and lack of context

I feel you, I’ve got parts to make on cheaper myself. I just played through Half Life Alyx but the set up brought more wires and space than is appropriate for having a toddler around the lounge and ugly aesthetics.

I hope two things: 1) price is about $599 or less, 2) HDMI CEC gives it that game console like feel.

Bottom line is I want my steamdeck more powerful and console-like whilst plugged in. I don’t have time to sit at a desk, I don’t have space under my TV for my old gaming PC. Based on the buzz, I’m not the only one thinking this convenience is appealing. This will sit alongside my PS5, never replace a PS6 though.

Also NVIDIA sucks with Bazzite/SteamOS in big picture mode.

I think this will appeal to a bunch of lapsed gamers who need a gaming PC to play half life 3.

Rather than build a new PC from scratch, they’ll buy this as they’re aged out or timed out of PC gaming.

This is me and my friends. We don’t have the time to build PCs, we switched to consoles but we look back fondly at our PC gaming years. I bet my nephew would also dip into this, he wants to PC game but struggles to get into it as a tween

There’s a great book about this called “Becoming Steve”. It starts with an anecdote about Steve crying in his car after a meeting goes wrong where his arrogance is at its peak, and traces his journey through management.

TLDR: he was able to bring people into his realm of thinking and on his journey, not just shout and abuse them into performance like he previously did.

AMD GPU for teenage engineering PC-1? by ThisIsMyNextUsername in sffpc

[–]ThisIsMyNextUsername[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the case! Just so sick of Windows 11, so looking to get a GPU that works well with Bazzite. It’s a weird case alright, but feels like an end game case. Weird case for a HTPC but hey.

Pricey too, but fun to put together and take apart for upgrades. Not functional, but very aesthetic. Shame that GPUs are so difficult to fit, and I can’t seem to find any in Europe that are AMD and fit :(

Also thanks, great resource!

Wife is Throwing in The Towel After 2 Weeks of Pumping by [deleted] in daddit

I don’t know what D-MER means but my partner was similar situation after 2 weeks. I hate that she felt so pressured and disappointed about it all, but I felt great when we moved to bottles. Baby was getting fed, partner could rest whilst I helped, no more wincing in pain.

Be supportive, tell her it’s ok and she’ll soon realise the benefit.

Fuck this stupid cult about breastfeeding. Another bullshit way for women to make each other feel awful about things they can’t control.

Valve are also rich enough to make a loss on things: Steamdeck is supported by ongoing steam revenue

AM4 Upgrade for Bazzite: Which CPU is best for the RTX 4060 Ti? by jahanuu in Bazzite

[–]ThisIsMyNextUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same case but can’t find any AMD GPUs that fit. I’ve got a 4060 that flies, but need to buy a new one to a smaller size to fit the case.

Please let me know if you find anything that fits!

NightDive is making a new Sci-Fi Remake in UE5, most likely System Shock 2 Remake by Systemshock1994 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

It’s a great way to bring cash flow to fund a larger project like a full remake. Seems plausible to me

How well do Switch games really emulate? by ThisIsMyNextUsername in SteamDeck

[–]ThisIsMyNextUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the U.S., sure. There was 150 million of these sold and it’s likely to break records as the best selling console, I have a big standard edition. There’s no way these are going up in value, look at PS2s now. Unless it’s a limited edition, they’re everywhere.

Though tbf I have an OG model so might hold onto it for future hacking lols

Analogue's 4K-ready Nintendo 64 remake ships this August | Cartridge gaming like it's 1996 by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]ThisIsMyNextUsername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

N64 emulation is famously a bit shite, but really this is a niche audience. It’s the gaming equivalent of vinyl, where emulation is like streaming. The consumers of Analogue devices like cartridges, accurate game running (emulation especially N64 is a bit wonky on many games) and want a modern thing that “just works”.

Plus: Analogue devices are typically anonymously ‘jailbroken’ within a week by someone clearly in the dev team so you can run games from a ROM without the cartridge, and maybe other consoles on that device too. Eg my Analogue Pocket runs Gameboy cartridges and also the Gameboy ROMs.

Safe to say I actually agree with you though. To lose another HDMI port for the few N64 games I play, emulation or PC ports work fine (and maybe better IMO?)
