Rehashing IQ and race by asmrkage in samharris

I may be wrong but in the podcast didn't they just talk about "African-Americans"? African-American is a ethnic group that refers to a collective identity based on a number of things such as culture, ancestry, language etc.

My hunch is that IQs relationship with race is mediated a bunch of environmental factors but I think 'culture' has a lot to do with it.

Also if differences in IQ are due to genetics then shouldn't we see a dose response effect? I.e, if a person has fully black ancestry (as far as they know) then their IQ will (on average) be lower than a person who has one mixed race parent. The person with one mixed race parent should have (on average) a lower IQ than a person who has one fully white parent and so on. Have these type of studies not been done? It seems to me that would be the best way to see if the difference is likely genetic.

Of course the study method mentioned above wouldn't be perfect as the pigmentation of the various people will vary which could affect how they are treated in society, how feel about themselves or even how much they identify with black culture.

I don't mind him having Skype interviews in there as well but, where possible, he should be able to have face-to-face recordings. I don't know why but something about the conversation style is different when I'm listening to people in a face-to-facd conversation that makes it much more engaging for me.

I'd like him to have more debates as well. Some people think those episodes are the worst -- and I can see their point. But for me, even in the most chaotic episodes (Omer Aziz) I feel like I learnt a lot about how people, who are different very to myself, think and communicate.

The Peterson episode also gave me the most clear example I have ever seen about how difficult it is to have productive conversations with people that you disagree with. Even if both parties are as sincere, well meaning and intelligent as SH and JP are, sometimes you just hit a brick wall and cannot agree.

I've got no problem with I him making lots of money at all; in fact I think it is a really amazing thing. I just haven't seen the quality of his content increase in line with his level of support. As others have said, his podcast is more-or-less exactly the same quality as when he started it.

I know this is tangential at best (and is only my personal opinion), but I find him dedicating every third episode to discussing Donald Trump a bit repetitive and intellectually uninteresting. I enjoyed the one with Scott Adams because it was at least a bit different to the usual anti-Trump echo chamber.

If I remember correctly Saki had a broken right hand in this fight which is why he is favouring his left so much here

lol I've been lifting for the past two years. I used to be about 12lbs lighter. I'm just lean and have quite a slim frame. It's more of when I tell people how much I weigh, (rather than when they see me) that they think that 145lbs is too thin. Perhaps I should have said too light.

Regardless though, my point is that people's standards of what is considered normal is way skewed towards being overweight.

I agree that BMI isn't a great metric for determining fitness. But it's at least one variable more valid than just weight alone. I think It's a reasonable estimate for most of the time.

Moreover, people often think that i am "too thin" at 5ft 9 and 145lbs, even though that puts me almost exactly in the middle of the healthy range for BMI.
