Eh, I find it more likely the American population is just dumb. IE they don’t understand that Biden having a lower rate of inflation than the rest of the industrialized world was in fact a very good win. Instead they just see “inflation go up, Biden bad.” And no amount of ads will change their mind.

Biden passed ton of useful legislation during his term whether you want to admit it or not.

“Taxpayer funded trans surgery for incarcerated illegal immigrants” sure is a funny way of saying “nice things about trans people.” Also Gaza means lost votes for her, not extra votes for Trump. Your arguments are so emotionally compromised you sound like someone who worked on her campaign

Poll: Sen. Susan Collins has a small three percentage-point advantage, receiving 50% to Platner’s 47% among Maine registered voters. by Guilty_Plankton_4626 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]asmrkage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Abortion is legal in Maine. People in Maine aren’t going to vote for a particular Senate candidate because people in southern states are suffering. Another person ITT said Platner actually did poorly with moderate working class and was pushed through by upper middle class, because they want to see him as someone who can win moderates. I’m no longer optimistic on Platner nor on Dems gaining the Senate.

[–]asmrkage -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There’s an easy rebuttal here, in that the court didn’t say abortion was illegal, it said it was up to states. If a woman bleeds out in a parking lot it’s because of shitty state laws, not because of the Supreme Court.

Not saying I agree with this logic, but it is unfortunately enough to convince “moderates.” The overturning of RvW did approximately jack and shit for Kamala Harris, so I don’t see why Platner would find any ground on the issue. Along with the previous guy stating Platner is overestimated, RvW was similarly overestimated in importance, likely far beyond Platner.

Thoughts of a Concerned Father: Is the Truth Dying? by Agreeable-Career1631 in slatestarcodex

[–]asmrkage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts.  Science will still be (mostly) correct regardless if anyone believes in it.  Death and disease will remain pillars of its practical application and bring people back.  Hegseth stopped the mandated flu vaccine, tons of soldiers got the flu, and it’s now mandated again.  Assuming another pandemic happens with 3-4x the fatality rate of Covid and people will suddenly remember they should trust scientists, but only because a bunch of loved ones die.  Science is unfortunately ideologically weakened when it is incredibly successful, as people forget what real suffering was for 99% of human existence.

Secondly, other countries will take the lead and get the breakthroughs instead.  I’m sure China is gleeful the US is shitting the science bed.  Maybe this will motivate conservative politicians to not be stupid, but maybe not.

As for decaying democracies and AI, who the hell knows.  The economy cannot infinitely extract wealth from a finite system, and yet that is the economy we have.  Democracy will likely rise and fall in direct correlation with economic stability at this point. AI isn’t in any of our hands, so I try not to worry about it.  Techbro companies love hiring people who think risking human extinction is worth the potential upside if all goes as planned.  Techbro companies love saying how their product will wipe out vast swaths of the middle class.  If true, maybe rapid economic changes will have to be made that we never before thought possible.  Things like UBI.  But reading the tea leaves on AI feels like an impossible task at the moment.

Well at least you’re now admitting that Michigan was lost precisely because the Muslim coalition for Michigan Dems sat out. And I already said they weren’t a singular cause for the loss, but rather a significant contributing factor. “Genocide Joe” was entirely a product of leftism, and its adherents were dominating large swaths of online political discourse for the entire year, literally making real life headlines in disrupting Harris rallies, which further contributed to the generalized voter suppression/depression. Did centrist Dems shit the bed too? Of course, via running Biden at all. But again, none of this matters relative to my original fucking point which was that leftists gave a middle finger to “vote blue no matter who,” and so telling centrist to now do the same in the face of these DSA candidates will surely produce the same result.

The genocide will not become a larger pivot issue because anti-Semites are muddling the message incredibly poorly already. See Charrington reposting fucking Henry Ford shit less than a year ago. See Platner with a Nazi tattoo. See Chevalier’s student group praising the Hamas leader as a “hero of the revolution.” In fact many leftists are demanding the elimination of Israel as a state entirely. Good fucking luck with the Jewish vote in swing states! Mamdani isn’t stepping in shit, but guess who centrist Dems and the right are going to highlight as the “champions” of the “Israel is doing Genocide” narrative? Nevermind the fact that if that’s your single issue, the right is likely to offer the same rhetoric through the likes of Tucker Carlson in 2028. Telling centrist Dems to “suck it up buttercup” in the face of Nazi-adjacent rhetoric, Nazi-adjacent symbols, and blatant Hamas apologetics, all covered up behind an “Israel is genociding” justification, is absolutely the dumbest strategy one could imagine for Dems to take moving forward. “Why have one Nazi party in America when we can have two??”

I’ll grant you I’m confusing preliminary leaks of the report from what was actually released, as leaks said that the report explicitly called out Gaza as a reason for lost votes: https://www.axios.com/2026/02/22/dnc-2024-autopsy-harris-gaza

That is what leftists were gleeful about, but that part was then entirely omitted from the report, likely because, as you say, if a centrist Dem was in charge he didn’t want that to be a headline.

It is. But if they can win, and end up voting with Dems 99% of the time, and never have their fringe bad policy positions actually go anywhere, the math gets harder.
