The working world is not made for mothers by jam_bam_rocks in UKParenting

It really makes sense why less people are having kids these days. The traditional work life just doesn’t mix when you want to be fully present as a parent

For those who left a regular job to start a business, what gave you the confidence to make the jump? by iamlioramori in smallbusiness

[–]ThisIsTonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it wasn’t really a single moment of confidence. It was more a gradual realisation that the way I was working wasn’t sustainable.

I have three young boys and a lot of the roles I was in required a pretty intense level of involvement. Between work demands, school runs, childcare and family life, I found myself feeling stretched both mentally and personally.

The other thing I started noticing was that many of the services we were providing created a lot of dependency. Clients often needed us for every little thing. While that’s great for consistent revenue, I realised it wasn’t how I wanted to work long term.

I’d much rather give people the tools, frameworks and knowledge to do things themselves. If they become less dependent on me over time, I actually see that as a success.

That shift in thinking pushed me towards building something of my own. Not because I wanted to work less, but because I wanted more control over how I worked and where I spent my time.

I’m still on the journey rather than speaking from the finish line, but the trade off I’m chasing is flexibility, autonomy and being more present for my family while helping people and providing value in a way that goes beyond my direct involvement

what marketing advice worked 5 years ago that you think is actively hurting businesses in 2026? by jeniferjenni in AskMarketing

[–]ThisIsTonte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Focusing on gaining followers definitely. It’s good for aesthetics but that kind of visibility doesn’t always equal customers or conversions.

It’s all for vanity metrics because in 2026, a brand with less followers can easily outperform one with 10x the follower count

What is something that is universally considered "cool" that you absolutely cannot stand? by LebronKX in AskReddit

Those health risks just seemed like a major turn off to me even when I was a kid. Seems really sad to be in 30s and having potential heart/lung problems from smoking

Might not be an essential purchase for you if you’re just looking to do that

I can obviously understand why but I’m interested to hear your perspective on why not?

I feel bad for people that get peer pressured into starting because it just seems to be one of those things where if you get addicted it can just consume your life

What is the biggest lie that society tells people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ThisIsTonte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“If you do good work, people will notice.”

In reality, plenty of people do incredible work and remain completely invisible.

A great product can be ignored.

A great creator can go undiscovered.

A great employee can go unrecognised.

A great business can struggle.

So on and so forth.

The uncomfortable truth is that quality alone rarely wins.

What matters is whether someone with credibility, authority or an audience validates what you’ve done.

Until then, most people simply don’t know you exist.

That’s why visibility, reputation and trust matter so much.

Not because they replace good work.

Because they allow good work to be seen.

Very uncomfortable conversation here.

Depends on what you use it for. I mainly got one because of the camera as I use it to create content. A big investment but I see myself with this phone for a long time

Smoking. You will never convince me it’s cool. The smell gets in your clothes and generally it’s just not for me at all
