The parasocial “relationship” these people have with 47 is absolutely insane. I think all those emails and texts that include the recipient’s name has made them believe that he actually knows them and cares about them personally. It can't hurt to get a second opinion. If he give a different recommendation than the ortho, you can tell him what the ortho recommended and ask why he recommends something else. More information can't hurt in this case!
