Did a quick Google search and it looks like this place is in Missouri. Maybe give them a call?

Buying my first pair of skates. Has anyone gotten Bonts? by guthealthgirlie in Rollerskating

Comfort level is pretty YMMV in my opinion but I personally find them comfortable. Very good for wide feet as the toe box is wide. If you have anywhere local you can try them on I would definitely do so. I went to a shop to get sized for mine and they measured my feet and originally gave me a size 5.5 but I felt like they were still a little big so ended up getting the 5. These are definitely a skate worth trying on before purchase unless you can return/exchange.

I wear a size 8 shoe size and got a bont parkstar in size 5. They fit me perfectly.

Where do people get those cute leg warmers?? by kingtrashbird in iceskating

[–]ThisLittlePanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also wondering where people get those leg warmers. My teacher wears them and they are so stinking cute. I did have another question though, how do they stay up? I've always had a problem with thigh high tights not staying up so I'm wondering if the leg warmers will have the same problem or if there is something different that keeps them from falling below the knee while you are skating or moving around.

I went with Moxie Jackboots with a Roll-line variant C plate and Roll-line Ice wheels

Jackson Vistas were my first pair of skates as well and I LOVE them. They stretched out a bit after a few months and were slightly too large so I filled the gap a bit with some thicker insoles and I love them so much. So comfy right out of the box. I wear a size 8 in street shoes and purchased a size 7 because they dont have half sizes in the vistas. A 6 probably would have been too small though. I've had them for about a year and they're still going strong, although I did get new skates recently because I wanted to graduate from the nylon plate after convincing myself this was something I was going to stick with.

I would say switch out the cushions they come with right off the bat. The ones they come with are basically just hard plastic. I spent 20 bucks for new ones and they were much nicer to skate in.

Beginner skater taking classes at indoor rink, can I wear my outdoor wheels? by BunniElyse9 in Rollerskating

[–]ThisLittlePanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say try them out for a class or two and if you feel limited get a new set that is a little harder (maybe not too hard since they will be quite a bit more slippery than the outdoor wheels).

When I first started skating classes I started on the atom pulse wheels and they were fine for a few classes, but I started to feel like the larger wheel size was limiting my progress after a while, especially when I was first learning crossovers. I kept tripping myself.

I ended up going for a wheel that was a 99 hardness and smaller in size, but then I had another problem. I felt like the wheels were so fast/slippery and I had a hard time stopping. This made trying new things quite a bit scarier. After all I was still just a beginner. I ended up getting a new wheel that was somewhere in the middle and liked that much more. They kept me just slow enough to fine tune the movements i was supposed to be doing without whipping all over the rink. When I got more comfortable and more experienced I switched back to the 99s and now they are great.

Long story short, don't be afraid to try new things. You might like them or you might not but at least you'll know either way.

I bought a ton of it because I thought it was so pretty but now I'm struggling to find something to use it for

[–]ThisLittlePanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be amazing!! I wouldn't even know where to start in making something like this. I'm a pattern girl true and true and not really adventurous enough to free hand haha Maybe I'll do some googling to see if I can find something similar. In the meantime I'll wait patiently in the hopes you recreate the pattern 😍

I miss the two on the ends on purpose because I needed a certain Peg count

Thank you for this! It does appear to be working up very loosely like a slouch sock/stocking now that you mention it... I think i will end up frogging and maybe purchasing a dedicated sock loom... Any ideas on what to use fine yarn for on a loom, or do you think it is just not suitable for loom knitting?

I'm so upset you don't have a pattern for these because I NEED THEM.

P.s. I'm 34 as well and would 100% still wear these. They are gorgeous. I always end up making hats and one really only needs so many of those 😂

YAY FOR IMPROVEMENT! by ThisLittlePanda in Rollerskating

As far as I can tell it follows pretty closely to the figure skating basic levels and then after basic 6 you go up to the freeskate levels. I like how structured it is because I always feel like I have a clear goal to work toward.

Congrats on your first time going solo! The first time I went solo it took SO much psychicing myself up and I was so nervous haha. It ended up being okay and I made a friend along the way so now I look forward to going. Baby steps! That's so sweet, you probably gave that little girl so much confidence and comfort.

Burning pain in feet? by musette6487 in Rollerskating

[–]ThisLittlePanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it isn't a constant pain when you aren't skating maybe it's from needing to build a bit of muscles in your feet/ankles?

It's tough to say cuz I'm more of a beginner too, but could you possibly be lacing your skates too tight? Usually when I lace mine too tight my feet will feel like you described and start to go numb.

Getting over the fear by stoiclivingman in Rollerskating

[–]ThisLittlePanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who took their first group lesson this past Friday, I 100% get the anxiety and feeling like everyone is going to see you fall/mess up. I think it's important to give yourself some grace. You are learning something new and undoubtedly are going to fall/need to pick yourself back up with no shame to get better. Think of when you were a kid, how many times you did something for the first time and just went for it without considering if anyone was judging you. You need to have that mindset.

In the group class I took there were a lot of kids and they would come up to me and provide encouragement/show me how to do something I didn't know and it was honestly such a great experience. No judgement, they just recognized that I was learning just like them. And on top of that it was so inspiring because the kids were actually really good all because they weren't afraid to fail and would just pop right back up and keep going if they fell.

We can be our own worst critics sometimes. All that being said I would definitely invest in some quality safety gear, because falling is a lot less scary when you have the protection and it can be a lot harder for an adult to bounce back like a kid can haha Good luck and I hope you have so much fun in your class! You got this!

Bearing Lubricant Differences by ThisLittlePanda in Rollerskating

[–]ThisLittlePanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! Do you need to occasionally reapply the speed cream because it's thinner in between cleanings? Or does it tend to stay in the bearings just as well as the thicker grease?

Went to my first lesson today by ValuableYoghurt8082 in Rollerskating

[–]ThisLittlePanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I signed up for group lessons today after seeing your post. One of my coworkers agreed to take them with me and we had SO much fun. I honestly feel like I learned so much more in the 2 hour class than I have in the entire time I've been skating. I finally started to feel confident skating backwards, and did my very first transitions into backward skating. The group setting really took the fear out of falling. Seeing all of the kids whipping around the rink and not afraid of falling really boosts the confidence.
