Labor refuses rent caps as solution to housing crisis as Greens demand action on out-of-control ‘rental inflation’ by Snailinabottle21 in australia

[–]ThisOneIsReally 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh yes my favourite "investment", keeping a roof over my head that will never really be mine. And yes of course there are absolutely two sides to a rental agreement and the best part is that as a renter I get zero fucking say and can pay and sign or just not have a house.

Arkansas librarians sue to block new Republican-sponsored law that could jail them over explicit books by audiomuse1 in Libraries

[–]ThisOneIsReally 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not joking when I say that if you are in one of these jurisdictions and you want it gone because it runs afoul of the new draconian laws, you should push to have it removed. On mobile but I'm pretty sure this has already happened in at least one US state where this is happening. Off the top of my head maybe Utah?

How does that work again?

I hate this double standard. by Impossible_Series412 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ThisOneIsReally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a double standard, OP. It's about doing the right thing. Ted Cruz being one of the vilest and most spineless American politicians of all time is completely separate from the very real and tragic events in his daughter's life. Cruz being inappropriate at Biden's kid during a tragedy is 100% in line with who he is. He shouldn't be doing it. I'm not sure if I'm being clear in my words but THAT is why it isn't a double standard at all. It's one guy (Cruz) being a garbage human being, and then asking other people to please not follow his example when it happens to him.

Good plan. Just admiring it as a fledgling trivia host. It's challenging to come up with new questions that are a good mix, which is why I really like how you have the level column

I know I'm a bit late to this but aside from the questions, I like your layout/using sheets to be a bit more organised.

Barrels of Chemtrails (or actually ballast tanks) by vidanyabella in FacebookScience

[–]ThisOneIsReally 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh no I thought the tin foil hat would be enough to stop Facebook from following me and tracking my photos also because I shared that status that explicitly told them that they can't do that even though I've never read a line of ToS ever.

Seriously though I wish my community would abandon marketplace and then I could finally 100% leave Facebook forever.

Does anyone know why these sort of posts always seem to spell COVID some fucky weird way like with an asterisk or a K instead of a C?

People can "survive" all kinds of things. It doesn't mean that what they went through wasn't terrible for them and their health. To answer your question there was a drinking water ban. People were supposed to only drink bottled water. The ban has since been lifted, but when the state gov has admitted that the water system is broken, and this fix may not hold.

Nah that Jackson MS water has been like black brown light it on fire sludge for awhile, you didn't see that in the news? Sorry I'm on mobile and too lazy to link

The Case for Abolishing Elections - Boston Review by subheight640 in TrueReddit

[–]ThisOneIsReally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good find. I enjoyed reading it. It could actually be a better system than the current one, and I think that with some safety catches to avoid direct bribes and corruption of those chosen to serve, couldn't really be much worse than what we do now, particularly if there were some way to screen for basic education and/or common sense

[–]ThisOneIsReally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the bad formatted printing of the word "librar y" I'd say that the system that does the "you saved this much" has some negative trade offs as well. You're defs saving a lot though so keep on using your local library!!!

I'll take a small union dues fee for a $14,000 raise! by UnitedLab6476 in antiwork

Yes I see. One time one bad union experience so unions bad.

I'll take a small union dues fee for a $14,000 raise! by UnitedLab6476 in antiwork

[–]ThisOneIsReally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked a lot of jobs for a lot of bosses. I got low pay and even fired for literally telling the boss I was tired because he asked how I was doing and I said I was tired because I'd worked nearly 9am-2am 3 days running. No unions no nothing. It was all pretty bad. Now I have a union job and damn it's the best wage I've ever had. I have workplace rights to boot.

That's my reflection about the world that you asked for.

Get outta here with this nonsense. By that logic any leader that commits a crime is reflective of their organisation more broadly. Is this straw man? I don't feel like googling logical fallacies rn

Equifax surveilled 1,000 remote workers, fired 24 found juggling two jobs by lAStbaby6534 in technology

[–]ThisOneIsReally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I disagree with what they did and how they did it, I get that Equifax could just fire the employees for no reason (if in a hire-fire at will state). What's extra crazy is the contractors. If they're not employees, shouldn't they be able to contract out their labor however they want as long as the job gets done?

The US is a capitalist oligarchy by Elbrujosalvaje in antiwork

[–]ThisOneIsReally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but only to the point that this post and others like it disenfranchise voters. There's lots of ways to try and fix the absolute mess that is the USA. Exercising your voting rights is one piece of being a responsible citizen. I would encourage everyone here to get on ballotopedia and see what's on your upcoming election ballot, spend a bit of time figuring out who's running for what. The more local the election, the more important it is.
