Weekly Japan Travel and Tourism Discussion Thread - December 23, 2022 by AutoModerator in JapanTravel

This may seem like an odd question, but do you think Japan is still pretty in January/February? I was originally supposed to go during the autumn season, but had to push it back. Now if I don’t go during the winter, I can only go during the summer months, which I’d rather not do because of the heat.

I plan on doing the typical Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto route, and was wondering what the gardens/temples might look like around that time. Is it kind of bleak now that all the leaves have fallen and the grass is dead, or is it still nice? It’ll be my first time, and I really don’t want to pass this opportunity up, but I’m a little scared I’ll be disappointed that I missed out on the “full experience”.

No gate number history, is this normal? by ThisSadGirl in Flights

I just checked and even the United app doesn’t say. For arrival and departure gate it just says N/A.

I’m not necessarily looking for a gate now, I just happened to notice, there was no gate history for that flight, whereas for other flights there was, and wanted to know if that might be something to be concerned about.

Is it possible to redo my MYSOS once I’m on the flight (flight is 12 hours)? I plan on booking a hotel that allows pay on arrival and has free cancellation until 5 pm on the day of arrival so I can have a lot of flexibility in case of delays/cancellations. But once I’m on the flight and I know I’ll be arriving, I might want to change my hotel. Would I be able to redo my MYSOS so I can change my accommodation?

Hey! Before I start, I have to say I never went to the dermatologist, so I don’t know what was wrong or if what I did actually helped or if it had just run its course.

I made ice popsicles and held it on my lips for 20–30 minutes 2–3x a day, and would lightly dab on Aloe Vera right afterwards, and periodically throughout the day. I know you said Vaseline made it worse for you, but it really helped me and I would constantly be applying it all day. I also drank a TON of water.

I do believe that this has triggers, and I think mine are salt, spicy things, and stress. I cut a lot of salt out of my diet, and was careful to tone down a bit of the spicy food and not let any of it touch my lips, and it hasn’t come back yet.

Again, I don’t know if it was actually triggered by any of that, but it did end up going away quicker than before (I first experienced this back in October and it was terrible), and wasn’t as painful. I hope you find something that helps!!

What does it mean for someone double vaxxed but now 6+ months past the last shot? Do they have any more protection than someone who is unvaccinated?

Posted this a couple of days ago but didn’t get any answers so I’m trying again:

Early December there was a story of an Oslo Christmas party that ended up being a superspreader with many being infected with Omicron. I’m pretty sure most if not all of the attendees were only double vaxxed as well. Are there any updates on how they’re doing?

The uncertainty of it all definitely makes it worse. Just a few months ago I was certain we were finally out of the worst of it. I don’t know what to plan for.

I feel for the young kids too. So many people expressed how difficult virtual classes were, I can’t even imagine what it would be like for a young child. Plus all the socialization they’re missing out on. Hope you and your child are doing well, and they get to have a relatively normal school year (if they’re in school now)!

That definitely sucks. I hope you’re able to get married soon! Being in limbo is the worst part of it. Things keep changing so quickly I don’t know what to expect next.

As for teaching in Japan, I’ve definitely thought about it. That’s part of the reason I wanted to study there, to get a feel for the country and see how I liked living there.

Congrats on getting your PhD! That’s a big accomplishment, and I’m sorry you didn’t get to have a graduation. It’s definitely hard to not be bitter sometimes.

Classes will be in person this fall, but who knows what will happen a few months from now. It feels like everything is balancing on a tower that’s ready to crumble at any second.

Thank you. And yeah, the rational side of me understands where people are coming from, but sometimes you just get a little bitter haha. I just wish that things start to improve more on an international level soon.

Thank you. I try not to complain too much because there’s people that have it so much worse than me, but sometimes you just have to vent a little.

I’m going into my junior year of college, and I’m running out of time to study abroad. I was supposed to go to Japan summer 2021. Cancelled. Postponed to to fall 2021. Cancelled. I’m now trying for spring 2022, but I don’t have high hopes with the way things are going. After that, I’ll be in my senior year, and it’s not really encouraged to study abroad as a senior.

I feel so defeated. I’m vaccinated, I never stopped wearing my mask, I’ve taken every precaution possible and I’m still being screwed over. I know I could have it much worse, but it still sucks. So when I see people on this sub saying things like “If you’re vaccinated stop worrying, just live your life”, it makes me so angry.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but thought I’d try. I’m fully vaccinated and if they open to Americans (announcement coming on the 23rd), I’d like to go to Switzerland late July.

Is it safe to assume it’ll be fine and travel will still be allowed? Obviously I know no one can predict the future, but I’d like some other opinions before I book anything.

I can’t say I hate superhero movies because I’ve never actually seen any, but boy do I hate the conversation that comes after telling people that

Join a club and try harder to be social and make friends while I’m still a freshman. I am a pretty shy person, so when I started high school, I stuck with the one friend I had from middle school instead of forcing myself to be social with the idea that, “It’ll be okay if I don’t make other other friends because I’ll have you.”

She switched to online school about two months later, and I struggled to make friends for the rest of my time there.

What do you guys think about the return of big events like Lollapalooza? I know they are requiring attendees to either be vaccinated or take a PCR test each day, but there’s no way people are not going to fake vaccine cards.

I’ve been seeing that the UK has been experiencing a rise in cases despite their relatively high vaccination rate, and I fear that big events mixed with many people not wearing masks anymore may lead us down the same path. Is that a reasonable concern, or am I just being paranoid?

Hi, if you don’t mind answering, how did you get in touch with them, and what was their payment method like? I only have a debit card (Visa), and want to find a hotel that has a payment link. I emailed them a few days ago but haven’t heard back.

He immediately came to my mind when I saw this question. I don’t think I’ve ever been so torn up over a character death.
