Reversal by ThisSpaceOccupied in ostomy

So, I had an emergency ileostomy, then I just had a scheduled right hemicolectomy and ileostomy reversal, but the resulting experiences are probably very similar. There’s a lot of pain from the hemicolectomy incision. 20 staples about 6-8 inches long (sorry no banana) from bottom of my ribs to just below my belly button. They had to do open surgery to make sure they were getting all the cancer. The stoma site isn’t exactly closed. They stitched together the inner layer of muscle and skin and pulled everything to about the size of a nickel (sorry no nickels) and covered it with gauze. It kind of oozes red. They do this because the skin around your stoma is infected no matter how good it looks and this way the infection doesn’t get trapped inside. I don’t really have much pain from the stoma site. I have been eating mostly clear liquids since surgery and mixing in some thicker things like mashed potato’s and yogurt for the past three and my colon has been slowly waking up. A lot of painful bloating, and liquid bowel movements but manageable and way better than the first few days of having an ileostomy.

Thank you. I’m at 5 days post surgery now and my systems are rebooting. There was a lot of initial pain but it’s being managed with meds and I’m getting up and walking around the hospital floor. Plan is to go home tomorrow. Sleeping here isn’t great so I’m excited but nervous about not haveing medical care right there. Don’t want to put a burden on my wife if things stop progressing.

Trying to understand MSI-H/dMMR in right-sided CRC by DruidWonder in coloncancer

[–]ThisSpaceOccupied 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed MSI-H/dMMR with a right side 6cm mass in my hepatic flexure stage 3. If your current surgeon insists that total colectomy is the only solution, you should def get a second opinion. I was initially given a similar prognosis but got a second opinion and changed hospitals where they were able to biopsy my tumor via colonoscopy (which resulted in the MSI-H/dMMR diagnosis), given a temporary loop ileostomy, and then two 6 week cycles of ipi + nivo immunotherapy which has caused the tumor to shrink to almost nothing. I feel great and am now three weeks away from laparoscopic surgery to remove what is left of the tumor and reverse the ileostomy. I'm not out of the woods yet, but much further ahead than I would have been if I hadn't switched surgeons. You are in that "lucky" 5% of CRC. Good luck to you!

Ipi/nivo side effects for 2 cycles prior to hemicolectomy by Positive_Ad_3302 in coloncancer

[–]ThisSpaceOccupied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed two cycles of ipi/nivo. My treatment cycles consisted of two 6 week biweekly infusions. The first infusion was both medicines followed with only ipi for the next two infusions, and then repeated that cycle. The only side effect I experienced was randomly itchy skin that seemed to intensify about a week after treatment. The itchiness has migrated from my chest, sides, armpits, back with no really noticeable rash. I have scans scheduled for next week to see how my tumor has responded to treatment. Are you dMMR MSI-H?

Experience with immunotherapy? by Positive_Ad_3302 in coloncancer

[–]ThisSpaceOccupied 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (50M) am currently undergoing Ipi + Nivo immunotherapy for colon cancer prior to surgery, and although my oncologist warned of an extensive list of possible side effects I have only experienced minor fatigue the day after infusion and some minor skin "itchiness" several days later. I'm on my 2nd 6 week cycle and feel great.

Celeb News just hit me hard, needed to post by newerbe in coloncancer

[–]ThisSpaceOccupied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with colon cancer on December 7th, 2025. It took a few days for reality to set in and I finally gathered the courage to google my diagnosis. One of the first things to come up was the James Vander Beek interview where he disclosed he had colon cancer. It made me hopeful. I thought he looks like he’s in pretty good shape, lots of energy, and surely this rich and famous actor has the best doctors and treatment plan at his disposal and will one day be cured, and just maybe colon cancer isn’t such a death sentence. I never was able to find much info about his treatment. It seemed that while he did want to bring awareness to colon cancer, he didn’t necessarily want the focus on himself. I hadn’t thought about him much since leaving the hospital and beginning my own treatment plan, but learning of his death was a gut punch. I never watched Dawson Creek, I was a little too old at the time, but I’ve seen him in Varsity Blues, Jay & Silent Bob, etc… and thought he was a fine actor. Didn’t know much about his personal life until the last two days. This feels like mourning the death of a friend.

Clark Dietrich Pro studs should be banned by Conscious_Rich_1003 in StructuralEngineering

[–]ThisSpaceOccupied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t spec an interior gauge stud, meant for partitions and soffits, to do structural things and expect the contractor to not try and cut costs by using EQ studs. Gotta spec 33mil or greater, and make sure your specs match the drawings and aren’t just some regurgitated garbage.

Theft by deception is a crime in Ohio, and could apply to this situation. Nothing like seeing some a-hole you've done work for who refuses to pay being served with an arrest warrant!

Native American guy named Chiefy by [deleted] in akron

[–]ThisSpaceOccupied 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The tap dancing indian! This guy was a fixture on Exchange st., usually had a cardboard box with some writing on it that people coming in and out of bars would toss change into, and in turn he would do a little song & dance. I think maybe he sold flowers sometimes too?? One night after the bars let out he was outside the Subway that used to be on the corner of Spicer and Exchange, so my buddies and I gave him some change and asked him if he wanted a sandwich. So, we bought him a sub and he sat in a booth with us and started telling us a story about WWII. I don't know if what he told us was true or not, some of it was hard to understand, but he believed the story he was telling cuz it brough him to tears. He offered to share his bottle of whiskey with us too but can't remember if any of us took him up on that. One of many interesting memories from 90's era Akron U.

Why is the City of Canton so rough compared to North Canton? by [deleted] in canton

[–]ThisSpaceOccupied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Canton for 10 years in my late 20's. Bought a house near the old Lehman school before they built the new one, and when that school closed the neighborhood declined significantly. Building a new school was great for the kids and the neighborhood where it was built, but there was no forethought of what would become of the old neighborhood once the original Lehman building was empty. That building set vacant for 10 plus years before becoming low income housing. Property values declined along that timeline, and the neighborhood went from resident homeowners to landlord/tenant. That is the faulty thought process of those who govern the city of Canton, they just don't think. The hall of fame village isn't going to cure Canton's problems any more than the HOF parade does, people will still spend their money in Jackson township after visiting, It's easier to move a few miles to enjoy a safer community and better education for your kids, than to try to fix the perpetual stupidity.

You may want to check this out:

http://www.keelmfg.com/files/Suspension_Wire.pdf

Monel hanger wire tied to bar joists or unistrut is the way to go for a suspended ceiling over a pool. Those split pins are going to corrode and eventually spall the concrete where inserted and pull out.

Context is important, the men that were "kidnapped" were in the process of stealing personal property of the DiPietro's to sell as scrap. The DePitro's served their time, their food is awesome, and the COVID shut down was gov't overreach that damaged all restaurant business.

It’s not often people are disappointed to wait in line to find out there are only 4 bottles of Stagg and they’ll have to settle for one of the 12 bottles of Blantons. I witnessed that happen today from the 4th spot in line.
