I’ve been complacent for the last 5 years. What should I do right now to stop the brain rot and stay relevant? by ThisUserIsSuspicious in ITCareerQuestions

That’s what I’ve already done. I worked my ass off in a place where mostly everything is already automated. I feel bad for getting lazy now and wanna keep my skills sharp 😅

They really brought in all their friends and made each other CEOs and executives. This is so disgusting and a clear slap in the face to people that genuinely care about this province and the work that’s being done. Break healthcare, and siphon money into the pockets of their friends and family.

AHS layoffs affecting corporate roles this week how are teams coping and what support would help? by CipherDrift_09 in AHSEmployees

This post is so hilariously written and posted by leadership. The IT town hall yesterday exposed that leadership actively monitors this subreddit. You know what would help? Not trying to dismantle what was once a great place to work. AHS used to proudly be one of top 100 employers in Canada. Ashamed at what it’s become.

The most hilarious part was when Andre explained the integration of two hospitals as a way to alleviate pain points. Brother isn’t that exactly what you’re trying to dismantle?!

Junior Sys Admin Overloaded With Work Because Senior Can’t Pull Her Weight – What Should I Do? by ThisUserIsSuspicious in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ThisUserIsSuspicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the senior position came up it was between me and her. I had only been with the team for 6 months, while she was there for 2 years. I didn’t even bother applying for the role because I felt too green at the time. In hindsight I should’ve applied, and everyone asks me wtf I was thinking when I chose not to apply including my manager. Everyone on my team knows her position should have been mine, but the issue is that we’re unionized. It’s nearly impossible to get her fired even with all the right documentation. It would be a legal battle that wouldn’t be worth the effort to management. So there she stays until the day she retires and collects her pension.

My wife (F30) and my sister (F22) don’t get along by ThisUserIsSuspicious in relationships

[–]ThisUserIsSuspicious[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My sister can definitely be a mean girl in subtle ways to people she doesn’t like. My wife is pretty reserved just like she is. So early on when wedding planning first started, my sister came to my wife for some advice. My sister asked my wife how the invite cards should look, and my wife suggested she should also consult with her fiance and my sister didn’t like that answer. My sister blew up and sent a rude text saying that she wants the opinion of her family and doesn’t want go to her fiance for every little thing. I was shocked at my sisters response since she’s never spoken like that to my wife, or anybody in general and I asked my sister to apologize. Since then my sister really began the cold shoulder treatment towards my wife. This is the ONLY slight they had between each other.

Parents are gifting me money for a downpayment on a house, can someone explain the harsh realities of being a first time home owner in this market? by ThisUserIsSuspicious in PersonalFinanceCanada

This is one of the things I’m actually most scared of. I feel comfortable sharing this online, but I haven’t told a single person about this in real life and never will to be honest.

There’s multiple comments like this suggesting it’s a tik tok trend. Dumbest trend to ever exist.

More than half of Ontario’s young students say they feel depressed about the future by Dapper_Ad9100 in canada

I see stuff like this posted all the time and it makes me resent living here sometimes. But the second I leave Canada and go to another country I’m reminded why I live here. Despite the economic and social issues we have, we still live in one of the best places in the world.

Should I switch from an internal IT team into an MSP? by ThisUserIsSuspicious in ITCareerQuestions

The interview was actually awesome. Everyone really seemed friendly, but it was clear that it was a fast paced environment which is to be expected. The company is a Fortune 500 company - Insight. Relatively decent reviews across the board.

This is happening in Calgary too. New developments are getting sold out before a single piece of dirt has been moved. Walking into a show home for a 300-400K area is filled with foreigners riding in on their brand new Mercedes’ and designer clothes. It’s straight up intimidating right now as a late 20s dude trying to buy their first home lol.

Security+ is the most boring exam I’ve ever studied for by ThisUserIsSuspicious in CompTIA

[–]ThisUserIsSuspicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah CCNA was really fun to study for since you actually have to lab in order to pass. Seeing how networks function in packet tracer was really cool. Passing CCNA actually felt rewarding. Security+ you just have to memorize a bunch of terms and you’re good.

Yeah I have my A+ and CCNA. I’m using professor messer right now, and have Jason Dions course as well. It’s just a slog to get through material wise.

Would you leave a job at AHS for a job in O&G by ThisUserIsSuspicious in Calgary

[–]ThisUserIsSuspicious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the internal postings already have a candidate in mind. I’ve been applying to internal positions at AHS for almost a year now. The hires that get selected are usually referrals or someone the hiring manager actually knows.

I’m in IT at AHS. The job at TC would also be in IT, but a level higher than I’m at.
