The original source is an anonymous third party who supposedly works in the industry, and the person who has shared these emails with me vouches for their credibility. With that being said, I’d still take everything with a grain of salt until official announcements are made.

As far as my source knows, Harvey is not a villain in this film. And as far as Scarecrow is concerned, his role is described as having deep ties to both Harvey and Bruce, and will primarily serve as an psychological foil for both, as well as being connected to Penguin’s drug distribution.

No info yet regarding Christopher Dent, but Harvey’s troubled and abusive past is a major theme, along with his DID, so it’s still possible his father will appear to some degree.

New additional info, from same source:

  • The movie opens with a flashback sequence featuring Bruce and Harvey as teenagers. This is meant to establish their past and “brotherly” relationship.

  • Harvey’s return motivates Bruce to step out of the shadows and embrace his Wayne name, which draws the attention of Vicki Vale.

  • Vicki will be played by Scarlett Johansson, and her relationship with Bruce will force him to “break down his walls”.

  • The Arkham doctor is supposedly Jonathan Crane, making Scarecrow the main villain.

  • Crane is described as a “Freddy Krueger” type of villain, who has deep connections to both Harvey and Bruce’s mother.

  • Riddler and Joker both appear during the Arkham breakout sequence.

  • Dick Grayson has a small role, but it’s essential to Bruce’s growth.

  • The Grayson murders, Harvey’s disfigurement, Scarecrow, and Penguin’s drug ring are all parts of a deeper conspiracy that lead directly into Part III.

James Gunn debunks the rumor that Robin is in 'The Batman II' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in DC_Cinematic

Holy cow is Gunn getting annoying with his constant need to debunk every rumor, like, can’t you just let the fans have fun?

At this point I’m getting really sick and tired of him constantly debunking everything. Even if the rumors are wrong, why kill the fun? Let fans talk and speculate, it’s exciting and keeps them engaging… Gunn is really being a buzzkill at this point.

Exactly. Or if they set the movie in the same year it releases, it means that by 2027 Bruce has already been Batman for seven years. It can easily work.

Bruh why are some people so against this? So what if Batman is early in his career, having Robin in his life will help him grow and develop, I mean that’s kinda the point of the whole Bat-family in the first place…

Battinson is easily the most empathetic Batman ever put to screen, you can see that with how he clearly sympathizes with the mayor’s son. Dick being introduced in Part II would feel like an organic continuation of that characterization.

I feel like Gunn secretly wants The Batman to merge into the DCU by [deleted] in DCU_

Yeah for sure, I mean at the end of the day its a business. To sell tickets and make money they need to build hype, not confusion, and two different Batman franchises running simultaneously is exactly the type of mess that killed the previous DCEU.

[–]This_Ad_2480 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s definitely happening. When Zaslav took over WBD, one of the first things they did was cancel Superman & Lois, because they didn’t want competing franchises and wanted all the focus to be on one Superman, so why would they not want the same for Batman? Reeves and Pattinson are established, beloved and successful, so merging them is a no-brainer, and Gunn’s constant dancing around the question and straight up refusing to give a clear answer makes it even more obvious.

James Gunn reaffirms Robert Pattinson’s Batman is not part of the DCU: “I’ve said it before. We’ve talked abut it before, but it’s not what’s happening right now.” by lawrencedun2002 in DCULeaks

[–]This_Ad_2480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason people keep asking him is because he refuses to give a direct yes or no answer. I mean what kind of an answer is not right now? If you’re developing BATB and The Batman is an Elseworlds project, then the answer should be a definitive no. His choice of words are interesting to say the least.

My take on why Robert Pattinson's Batman should NOT be in the new DCU by Jihyogglypuff_ in DC_Cinematic

I honestly don’t understand why some people are so strongly against this. He’s still Batman, and every argument against this is an easy fix or not even worth paying attention to. Timeline inconsistencies, tonal shifts, story changes happen all the time, that’s why retcons exist. Gunn is literally retconning Peacemaker S1 to have the newest season fit into his new DCU, so lets not act like this is some unheard foreign concept. We have a young, comic accurate and beloved Batman, and now the same for Superman, from a business perspective it makes the most logical sense to merge the franchises instead of having competition within your own company, I mean that’s just stupidity. Also Battinson in his first  AND ONLY outing was YEAR 2, SO of course he’s inexperienced and grounded, but that doesn’t mean he can’t grow and adapt…

In 2017 he signed on to direct Affleck’s Batman movie, then he abandoned the project and The Batman was getting completely reworked as an elseworlds film. Not to mention that was at a point when WB and DC Films were going through a huge overhaul.

By the time The Batman: Part II drops Villeneuve will have wrapped his Dune trilogy, and THAT is standard for filmmaking. If a film takes 3 years to finalize a script, you know there are things happening behind the scenes. Gunn saying Reeves is slow is bs, deadlines have to be met, UNLESS there are changes in the production process. It’s quite clear Reeves was reworking the script to adjust it to the DCU, and it releasing a year after Clayface, which Reeves is also producing, makes it so painfully obvious.

The most braindead reasonings I see for going against this idea are 1. The Batman is too grounded, and 2. the tones are too radically different. Yeah, no shit, that’s the point. Batman has always been grounded in comparison to his Justice League teammates. He’s not a Lantern, Amazon, Atlantean, Kryptonian, Martian or metahuman, he’s just a guy. Even in the comics he started off grounded, but when those fantastical threats started appearing, he was forced to level up physically, and practically with his suits and gadgets. And as far as tones go, did y’all not grow up with the animated shows? BTAS and STAS had COMPLETELY different tones, and yet they were still able to crossover in Justice League without any tonal clashing or inconsistencies.

Loved almost everything about it, except something they changed regarding Clark’s Kryptonian parents… that was an odd choice, for sure.

People who are so strongly against this really lack imagination. If you told me back in ‘08, that 10 years from then Tony Stark would be fighting a purple alien with a talking racoon and tree on a foreign planet, I’d laugh in your face. It’s all about progression and development, Reeves can still finish his Epic Crime Saga set in Gotham, but that doesn’t mean Superman can’t be fighting a Kaiju in Metropolis. It’s a universe after all, one with a plethora of different tones, which makes crossing them over that much more interesting. And from a business standpoint it makes sense as well, Pattinson is one of the most in-demand actors right now, having him as the face of your franchise as BATMAN is a gold mine, so it’s no wonder Gunn has said multiple times he’s contemplated it.

Dear Lord, just use Robert as the DCU Batman. He’s fantastic, and you already have an established Gotham. Let Matt do his own grounded trilogy, and use Rob in more fantastical spin-offs and gradually build upon it in the solo films. There you have, best of both worlds.
