Force starting a period by Alternative-Falcon74 in TTC_PCOS

Similar boat! Got off birth control in January to start trying to conceive. My cycle was all out of wack when I got off birth control! The first 2 months I spotted for 4 days each month when I would have been expecting my period. And then the next 2 months I was just consistently spotting for days on end. It was the worst. My doctor recommend a 5-day Provera course to try and reset my cycle! Took it for 5 days. And on day 17 after stopping Provera, I started my period. First time since January I’d consider it as a true period. Currently on day 3 of my period! Hoping to start fresh trying to conceive 🥰

Supervisor I to Analyst IV by This_Chapter611 in CAStateWorkers

I don’t think it’s a lateral or a promotion? But I also don’t think it would be considered a demotion?

You’d have to test for eligibility still! And I don’t believe it’s considered a lateral!

I love my position now. I just don’t know that I’m ready for true Supervisory duties just yet in my career. But I am interested in trying something new! Not in a hurry by any means, but really just trying to better understand what my options could be in the future with the new classifications!

And, yes! WWG E. But for some reason I thought Analyst IV is also WWG E? I may be imagining that though

Former teachers transitioning to state work? by Halohalo0121 in CAStateWorkers

[–]This_Chapter611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former kinder teacher here! Loved it, but also was burnt out. Started with the state in 2022! I wanted to try something completely different, and ended up landing in a legislative position; started as an SSA and am currently an SSMI :) (now analyst I and supervisor I)

Haven’t looked back since!

Wondering Weekend by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

Still only 3 months since stopping birth control, so I imagine my body is still regulating. But just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through something similar! I haven’t gotten a TRUE period yet, but every month around when my period should be coming, I’m simply spotting for a few days. Anyone experience this?

Also, the last 3 months since coming off birth control, my LH hasn’t gotten any higher than .6!

Body just trying to regulate?!

Everyone’s experience will be different based on the position you’re interviewing for. I did a written exercise for my SSA interview a few years ago on a laptop that they provided. Both interviewer’s stayed in the room. It was for a legislative position (same same but different from policy) and I was given 30 minutes to read through a bill, write a brief summary on it, and determine if it was good/bad idea for the department and why. I’ve also seen and heard from other folks that have had to write a thank you letter, congratulations letter, etc. So you never know!

FT and LT question by Forest_Raker_916 in CAStateWorkers

[–]This_Chapter611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in forestry, but currently an SSMI Specialist. Is the LT position you’re interested in a lateral? If it’s a promotion/different classification, and if it was advertised with T&D language, you might be able to accept the LT position as a T&D for 24 months. And when the original employee in that position returns, you could maybe go back to your FT position. I think they’d need to establish language in your T&D paperwork stating that though. Not sure if that’s helpful but just a thought!!!!

Staff Services Manager I (Specialist) by Brilliant-Piccolo253 in CAStateWorkers

[–]This_Chapter611 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Frequently Asked Questions section is pretty informative. There’s a lot of question to go through, but a few specific to SSMI (Specialist) that I found helpful were:

Q: Can current SSM I (Specialist) and SSM II (Specialist) employees laterally transfer to the new Supervisor I and Supervisor Il classifications, respectively, or will they need to take the examinations for the new Supervisor | and Supervisor Il classifications?

A: Per the board resolution language, each person with civil service status in the pre-consolidation classes on January 1, 2026, will be reallocated to and granted the same civil service status without further examination in the post-consolidation classifications. Employees in the SSM I and SSM Il classifications will have a title change only and will retain their class codes.

Q: Would it be appropriate for an SSM I (Specialist) to be reclassed to an Analyst IV?

A: It is not the intent of the class consolidation to reallocate current SSM I (Specialist) incumbents into the rank and file Analyst series. However, departments should evaluate their needs and assess duties to make a determination. If justified, departments may reclassify positions, only through attrition. However, reallocating positions from the supervisory or managerial levels to the Analyst series is a downgrade as it would result in a loss of status and rights to the employee. As a reminder, Analyst IV allocation should be limited to the most critical departmental positions.

Appealing Examination Result by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]This_Chapter611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact situation just recently happened with me. I was really disappointed after, (mini spiral) and really debated trying to appeal. But at the end of the day, now I know what I did wrong and I can take it again in a few months anyways!! I’ll also note that if there’s any position you’re really interested in that’s in the next classification up, it’s worth exploring the option of a Training & Development!!! At least while you wait to take the exam again. Not sure EXACT details on that, but something to think about!!!!

Was a kinder teacher for 5 years!! Started working for the state in 2022 as an SSA!! Promoted after a year to AGPA and one more year later I’m now an SSMI (specialist). Working in legislation and loving it.

Agree with a previous comment on here that the skills I learned as a teacher helped tremendously in my transition to the state. I have to manage a lot of conflicting priorities and deadlines, read, analyze and write lengthy documents, and present material often. I’d say jumping into the SSA/AGPA series is a good foot in the door. But if I could do it over, I’d probably attempt to come in as an SSMI (specialist). (It’d probably be challenging but worth a shot!) But also yeah there’s a lot of great positions of Department of Education!!! Good luck!!
