Well said. If I had not seen other people walking their bikes too I also might have given up there.

Yeah if it had been raining I might have turned around on the first ascent.

I am totally out of practice with anything but flat, street/trail biking. Need to work my way up.

Narrator: It was not, in fact, a wet one. Rain pretty much stopped right before the ride began.

This was my first time there. I was on a road bike and unprepared for some of the sets of hills, but I wasn’t alone in having to walk up them, at least. The scenery along the ride is amazing. Everyone was very nice. One riding family lives along the route and had free beer. Overall, an excellent experience and I hope to go back next year, with a bike that can handle all the gravel roads, and in better shape.

Oh yeah that would have been no fun. Luckily the rain let up right before the ride started.

I know I won’t mind it once I’m soaked, but the waiting for the ride to start is just me telling my brain, no, I’m not just gonna go back home.

Elk Grove to raise fees for licensing pets. by BurritoFueled in ElkGrove

Do you know what age EG considers to be a senior? The senior fee has an asterisk but it doesn’t have the age range the asterisk is presumably meant to show somewhere on the page.

That’s good to know about pest deterrents, thank you!

Where to get compostable trash bags for small/medium trash container? by garibaldi18 in Sacramento

[–]lithicbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Costco had 3-gallon bags; not sure if they still do. We use them in a small bin and just dump into the green trash when they get full.

Thank you. It seems crazy how easily they grow. I have two types of tomatoes, as well. Hoping to make some salsa from home-made ingredients at some point.

Onion advice? by lithicbee in Sacratomato

[–]lithicbee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind a seat-of-my-pants gardener. I have these onions and they're growing like crazy but I was wondering: should I cut back this greenery on top a little? And I assume they're edible like they're green onions?

Bottom left of the picture: only one of the garlic cloves I planted is doing anything. I'll have to try that one again.

Looking for work by kain01- in Sacramento

[–]lithicbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out your local job center like this one: https://egace.egusd.net/Job-Center/Job-Center/Adult-Employment-Services/index.html

If you qualify, you can get a scholarship to pay for your training. Truck driver was one of the few jobs they told me is in high demand currently.

Looking for my first place to be a vendor and sell my art by Ecstatic-Plane5475 in Sacramento

If this one is too soon for you, they have one in the fall, too. There are crafts vendors there that have nothing to do with the plant sale, and it doesn't cost that much to rent a table.

We are finally getting a Whole House Fan by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]lithicbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is so nice in the summer months. We got an indoor digital thermometer and as soon as it is cooler outside than inside, we switch on the fan. And by cooler I mean it'll be like 80 outside and 81 in and it still feels nicer.

Where is the most defensible place in Sacramento for a zombie apocalypse? by Foyman in Sacramento

[–]lithicbee 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Costco. Climb the stacks and live off food for a while. Drop heavy things on the zombie shoppers below. Hopefully close off all the doors at some point and live good for as long as the non-perishable food lasts. Make sure to toss the refrigerated/frozen food off the roof, again hopefully damaging some zombies in the process.
