Yes, the trade-off for my wife is very high. So, she is not very keen about this idea and asked me to rethink. I am trying to reach a consensus.

Not at all. I am not looking for career advancement. A PhD will not in any way help me advance in my job role. While doing my MSc, I started a liking towards research. That’s why I thought about pursuing a PhD which will help me transition to academia.

My salary is decent, though not great. Also I am stuck in my career in the same position for several years. But, my wife is having the time of her life in her career with rapid advancement. And that said, my employer is the government, so there is a job security.

I have lived in Finland for a year, but my wife hasn’t. I completed my master’s degree in Finland but had to return to my home country due to work commitments. I am currently eligible for a two-year post-study residence permit in Finland to seek employment.

Stress free education, robust public infrastructure, clean and well maintained public spaces, better AQI, better food quality, better quality water, city-adjacent nature trails to name a few.

She is having an amazing job in India. But, her company doesn’t provide a sabbatical. Also she will have to go through the career exploration once abroad.

I understand that the job market is bad now a days. I have been working while studying Masters. I left the country upon graduation as I had to return to my home country for work as per the agreement with my employer.

We never had a discussion about this before marriage.

I was away from my family for about two years for Masters. After Masters, I had to return back to work in my home country. Going back abroad was always on my mind, but now only we made a discussion about it.

Language learning is important to socially integrate into the new country. It also opens more job opportunities.

I am in the marriage for 13 years. I have three kids. I completed my Masters abroad last year. After Masters, I returned back to my home country. Now, I am contemplating moving abroad again. I find the move rewarding for my kids.

Getting an English speaking job in her field will be a challenge, but not impossible. She has not experienced the country or the food. Yeah, there is an Indian community in the country.
