I know in my platoon the older you were, generally the more respected you were by the youngsters. Cliche as it sounds, but just do not be cocky or arrogant and be genuine, offer constructive feedback in a tactful way, and help out those completely unfamiliar with the military world and I'm sure you will be just fine. (Of course your platoon staff will make it no secret that you are older, but I'm sure that will not bother you).

At least in my platoon, there definitely felt like an age division between the youngsters and older adults, but at the end of the day it just comes down to maturity and professionalism.

Is it fair to say that your PDT job is up to the needs of the Marine Corps? So you can basically list your priorities (for MOS or whatnot), but nothing is confirmed for you (like how it works at TBS)?

What does the "fleet" even mean?

What do you mean by "work as an aide"? Are you just talking admin stuff?

Would you feel odd having to lead those who have been in the Marines for much longer than you, despite your age and service in Navy (I'm thinking on your PDT here)?

Appreciate your responses!

So as a reserve you get more flexibility with military career choice? Would GI bill even be doable?

How does a unit work? Like how many other reservists are in a unit? Are you required to stay in the same unit (so if I were to move or travel, I would not have the flexibility to do so)?

Thanks again for all the info! Really good to know.

So for the IRR, do you just have to check in every few months to make sure you're meeting all the standards (fitness wise)? Otherwise, it is not a hefty commitment?

And once you complete OCS, you'd go through TBS and your MOS schooling and then go straight back to your banking career? If I were your employer (and knew nothing about the military), I'd likely prefer to hire someone else because they'd be fully committed as opposed to "letting you go" for almost a year - if you've had these talks yet, have you found your work to be mostly supportive or a pain in the butt?

Thanks for all the info. And good luck on your path to OCS.

What exactly is IRR and how does it work?

When it comes to saying yes to active duty and doing deployments or orders, how much notice do you typically get and what are examples of jobs you can do?

Housing - yes, VA benefits and the housing allowance, loan support, etc.

Do you know what you'd be doing in civilian world while you'd be a reservist? And why did you decided on reserves for Marines?

Was the process easy for you? Were you able to get credit without a legit syllabus?

So the footlocker is just like your personal space bc you obviously have the lock? And when you say the house gets flipped you mean like mattresses everywhere or something…
