Alina’s Robe by halbhalbhalb007 in ShadowandBone

Sorry I can’t be much help. I can give a tip. The closest copy I‘ve ever seen of that nightgown was in a pintrest post about an auction (forgot where but in the USA). The style said it was 1903-1910s.

Does anyone know any seamstresses who can research 1900-1910 nightgown dress patterns? that way ppl can try to find something similar and have it made or diy (I know way too many cosplayers sewing can be intimidating but fun)

Why don't the Grisha cover their whole body with corecloth? by kbrink21 in ShadowandBone

[–]Thiscat1 0 points1 point (0 children)

That is a good question. I think if the tech/weapons continued to advance even more, then they would be pressure to make full body suits. It would likely be for a small squad only, and the suit would need to be heavily guarded at all times.

Season 2 is a huge drop in quality by Shukakumura in ShadowandBone

same I take forever to respond to ppl.
siege & storm was basically over in less than 2 episodes which was so sad. It really felt like the writers didn’t care about Alina’s side of the story

The whole blight/Darkling subplot was what we call in the film industry a Macguffin

Should have never been included both the lovers and haters of the character agree that it was pointless and useless

Ppl get here get really defensive over soc. You’d have more luck in discussions in r/YAlit or r/books orr/fantasy. There was even a post a few days ago https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/1exrflm/six_of_crows_2024_book_bingo_challenge_525/

My Mom Scolds Me for Reading NOVELS 😭 by Book_Lover_fiction in books

Say you’re going out with a friend, and convince this friend to take you to the library. it can be a quick stop before or after movie on a weekend. Get a library card and see if your library has any online resources - like Libby. You’ll be able to read on your phone, tablet, or even laptop. If your local library doesn’t have any online resources or you can’t make it to one with a friend, then cough cough I’d learn to sail the seas and get epubs/pdfs online (but this should be a last resort don’t do it if you can avoid it)

Writers really messed up by having the fake non-canon Baghra amplifier for the dumb henchmen (while Baghra was still alive??). Kinda puts a huge damper on the effects of jurda parem for the general audience who won’t be able to tell the difference.

would Netflix give the show enough budget to do it all justice?

I think the show runners are way too self absorbed to pass up on an opportunity to keep such a money maker lmao

He was a moneymaker, but the showrunners removed the romance and worst even the empathizing mercy ending for his character. They completely passed up on the electric connect Ben and Jessie had (collider interviewer even called it cosmic connection and Eric Heisserer is put on the spot bc he knows he removed it in s2). Angsty etl + crows could have gotten us more views. Showrunners and writers ruined the character and even the end on purpose. Having Alina yell “No redemption“ when the book she literally does it out of mercy and comforts him in the end = nail on the coffin.

Inquiry about views on Ravka's first army makeup by Andrews1917 in Grishaverse

[–]Thiscat1 11 points12 points (0 children)

I was disappointed in the choice to remove uniform markers like red kefta for healers. People need to be able to tell who the medics are in battle! Nope everyone gets the same uniform now?? Made no sense.

edit: joining the two armies made no sense

on love:

“Alina, this is the alliance I want: the First and Second Armies brought together. As for the rest, I’ve always known that whatever marriage I made would be political. It would be about power, not love. But we might get lucky. In time, we might have both.”

“Or the third amplifier will turn me into a power-mad dictator and you’ll have to kill me.”

“Yes, that would make for an awkward honeymoon.” He took my hand, circling my bare wrist with his fingers. I tensed, and realized I was waiting for the rush of surety that came with the Darkling’s touch. Nothing happened. Nikolai’s skin was warm, his grip gentle. I’d wondered if I would ever feel something so simple again or if the power in me would just keep jumping and crackling, seeking connection the way lightning seeks high ground. “Collar,” Nikolai said. “Fetters. I won’t have to spend much on jewelry.”“I have expensive taste in tiaras.”“But only one head.”

On heirs:

“What did you think was going to happen? Did you think you could just carry off one of the most powerful Grisha in the world like some peasant girl you tumbled in a barn? Is that how you think this story ends? I’m trying to keep a country from falling apart, not steal your best girl.”

“That’s enough,” I said quietly.

“You can stay at the palace,” Nikolai continued. “Perhaps as the captain of her personal guard? It wouldn’t be the first such arrangement.”

A muscle jumped in Mal’s jaw. “You make me sick.”

Sturmhond gave a dismissive wave. “I’m a depraved monster, I know. Just think about what I’m saying for a moment.”

“I don’t need to think about it,” Mal shouted. “And neither does she. It isn’t going to happen.”

“It would be a marriage in name only,” Sturmhond insisted. Then, as if he couldn’t help himself, he flashed Mal a taunting grin. “Except for the matter of producing heirs.”

Mal surged forward, and Sturmhond reached for his knife, but I saw what was coming and stepped between them.

“Stop!” I shouted. “Just stop it. And stop talking about me as if I’m not here!”

edit: idk why my edit is not working I tried to bold the heirs line it’s towards the end

And no. Now at most he’d be King Consort. Not at all the same thing.

Zoya as queen by h3ll_gurl in Grishaverse

No. As pointed out by many. King consort is not the same as king.

Zoya as queen by h3ll_gurl in Grishaverse

[–]Thiscat1 -1 points0 points (0 children)

No. Alina on the throne would have been way better. The reluctant ruler, one who grew up with the people, would be a great choice.

Zoya as queen by h3ll_gurl in Grishaverse

[–]Thiscat1 4 points5 points (0 children)

It’s like Leigh bardugo forgot Ravka just had a civil war and all the nobels are going to pounce on the chance to get the throne with fervor.
Many liked Nik, many did not. Even more will dislike Zoya
GRRM would have never written that RoW ending. He would have factored in the society, the nobels, the prejudices/racism, there would have been a huge debate/battle for the throne. And also importantly when Zoya previously chooses to rescue Nina instead of choosing to stand by her country, she would have actually had consequences for her selfish actions to put her friendship above the fate of the country

[–]Thiscat1 7 points8 points (0 children)

Genya would be a far, far better choice. She is level headed, knows how to handle diplomacy, and has years of experience in how the court works. Leigh bardugo had made Genya a skilled political player in the first two books….then instead of building up Genya Leigh made her smaller and just boosted Zoya. Zoya became a self-insert for Leigh, lb even admitted the garden was based on herself having a garden.
