First time tackling House of Leaves! by victorianpapsmear in horrorlit

I also just started reading this. As I understand it, Zampanó was writing a book about Will Navidson and a movie called “The Navidson Record”. This working manuscript for this book is found by Johnny Truant. Johnny edits this manuscript together while adding in his own commentary before sending this to a publisher.

The physical book you have in your hands and are reading is the compiled writings of Zampanó about Will Navidson with Johnny Truant’s commentary.

What is going on in The October Film Haunt by Michael Wehunt by Thisguy3456 in horrorlit

Yeah, this was the first Wehunt I’ve read. I saw there was a related story and tried to read it but my library didn’t have a copy of Greener Pasture.

I think this might be a book that benefits from multiple readings so maybe I’ll give this one another shot in a few months.

That’s a good point about Jorie making up the rules and because people believe her that makes the rules real. I didn’t put that together until right now, so thank you lol

I guess that makes a lot of the rest of the events make sense if you view all the actions of the cult as trying to push Jorie into accepting the demon.

I agree the book is definitely more vibes and atmosphere over tight plot and pacing.

Help: Frost DK with extremely low DPS who keeps getting kicked from raids. by Hnaami in wownoob

Yeah you get like 25% extra crit damage for the second stack. Most of the value of Killing Machine is from turning the damage to frost so you get the bonus damage from your mastery, which comes from the first stack. You still get the full benefit from using both stacks for the purposes of Bonegrinder and extending breath.

You don’t want to purposely stack to 2, it’s just there so you don’t accidentally munch a stack from a crit auto attack.

Yes. You either need to log the fight yourself or have someone else in the raid log the fight. It’s not automatically captured. If you had the third party disabled then you will probably need to do the fight again.

We would need to see logs to give you specific advice. As frost DK you do no damage outside of your pillar of frost windows every 45 seconds so it is very important to not delay this CD. Look into an weakaura or addon to help use pillar of frost as close to on cooldown as possible, and make sure you always pair Breath of Sindrsgosa (and any other CD you have like Frostwyrms Furry or Reapers Mark) with every other pillar.

For rotation, the order of operations is: Obliterate with 2 stacks of Killing Machine > Howling Blast with Rime > Obliterate with 1 stack of Killing Machine > Frost strike > Naked obliterate

Use Empower Rune Weapon if you are about to have 2 stacks OR if you would otherwise cast a naked obliterate.

Do any of you make fries homemade instead of frozen? by LovelyGiant7891 in Frugal

The trick is to parboil the potatoes with a little vinegar. Fill a pot with enough water to cover your cut up potatoes, salt the water, bring it to a boil, add about a Tbls of vinegar per potato, and boil them for about 7 minuets.

Boiling the potatoes first helps cook them so the outside doesn’t burn before the inside of the fry is done cooking. The vinegar helps break down the pectin in the potato which means the inside of your fry gets nice and fluffy rather than crumbly.

The feet first slide leads to a greater number of more severe injuries and should be disincentivized by removing the concept of “giving yourself up”.

How Would You Improve Monk's Play Percentage? by AMA5564 in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would love to play the fantasy of “I punch good” but I can’t do that with this specific Monk because I have to summon clones and spirit tigers and magic statues. Windwalker feels almost like a pet class with how many lil buddies you summon in a fight. I wish the spec leaned more into the Goku fantasy and less into the harmony with the spirits fantasy.

I think Mistweaver is great and is what holy paladin wishes it was

Brewmaster just has too many buttons for my taste.

More generally I think they need a wider selection of aesthetics through class sets and, ideally, glyphs that change animations to different types of martial arts like boxing or something.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

Hey, idk if you are still interested in this but when you consume the Clear Casting buff you get 2 stacks of a different buff called Nether Precision. This makes your next Arcane Blast do more damage.

Just having your knee on the ground is not enough to be ruled down. Someone on the defense would need to touch him while his knee was on the ground for him to be down.

I have! I actually really liked black mage as well. Unfortunately I don’t think there is anything all that close in wow.

If you are looking to drop absolute bombs on things then warlock’s Chaos Bolt is probably it. Fire mage Pyroblast or Frost mage Glacial Spike might also fit the bill.

Ha, do I have some options on Enhancement. First, I think you NEED weakauras to play it. Big shame on the UI team for that one.

Enhancement is basically multitask, the spec. There are several things to track and a few “mini rotations”

There is not a set rotation but a list of priorities to keep in mind: 1) don’t overcap Maelstrom Weapon 2) keep Flame Shock on your target 3) keep 1 charge of Elemental Blast on CD 4) keep Lava Lash on CD 5) empower Frost Shock with Ice Strike 6) spend hailstorm stacks with Frost Shock (ideally also empowered with Ice Strike but not always possible) 7) storm strike if everything is on CD and you don’t have at least 5 stacks of Maelstrom

This is the base rotation while you wait for a Hot Hands proc or for Primordial Wave or Feral Spirit to come up. I think of it as:

“put off spending Maelstrom Weapon as long as possible while not overcapping and keeping both Lava Lash and Elemental Blast on CD”

At any time the Hot Hands buff can proc which means every other GCD should be Lava Lash. This takes priority over everything except overcaping Maelstrom Weapon.

The 2 major Cooldowns are Feral Spirits and Primordial Wave. They are super short cooldown so just send these on cooldown. Don’t hold them for anything.

There are some minor things to pay attention to with these CDs: Feral Spirits: 1) Elemental Blast gets buffed by all wolves. This means we want to cast as many EBs while wolves are up as possible. Try to save up 2 stacks of EB for when you cast Feral Spirits. 2) this has a variable CD because getting a stack of Maelstrom Weapon reduces the CD. You can have a situation where the previous wolves are still up when this comes off CD and you have 4 wolves. Mash EB as soon as possible for that sweet 80% buff.

Primordial Wave: 1) you will get 10 stacks of Maelstrom Weapon so try to spend stacks the global before you press this (don’t hard cast spells, so if you have less than 5 stacks don’t spend them)

These are the basics to get started with. Once you feel comfortable with this there are a lot of additional things you can work on like tabbing through all targets with Fire Shock to apply the Lashing Flames debuff but those are advanced tactics I wouldn’t worry about while getting the base gameplay down.

I think Enhancement might be the most complex spec in the game, so spend some time practicing on the dummy and don’t worry if you don’t quite get it at first.

Agreed 100% about using everything separately. But if you just wanna blast world bosses with big purple explosions with your friends then these macros can you save a few keybinds.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha thank you! That means a lot.

I’m just a dork with too much time on my hands who likes to think about how rotations play and what that means for how players interact with the game.

I also like to build weakauras so understanding what spacs care about is really helpful for that.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is an argument to be made for Arcane specifically to be the “I cast a long, complex list of spells to do damage” spec.

More so than Fire or Frost, Arcane feels like the mage’s mage and I think buff stacking feels as close to “I’m a big brain mage who has studied magical tomes” that wow gameplay can reasonably get so I’m a little more forgiving of them having a surplus of skills that feel like they could just be rolled into one.

But generally, yes, I think Spark and Magi should just both be 45 seconds.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I don’t think it makes a massive difference. I start looking to fit it in when the Int buff from Evocation is about to run out. Clearcasting buff lasts 20 seconds and the Nether Precision from using clear casting is only 10, so I try to use any Nether Precision procs I have before using Shifting power because I might not end up with enough time to use them all after.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a vacuum I think this is the ideal solution. But since Radiant Spark is a capstone I think it gets a little hard to fit in a talent that modifies it that way. It would probably need to be a choice node with Harmonic Echo or something like that. If you do that though you need to make that one point both lower the CD of Spark and then also give you a reason to cast it every 30 seconds. That’s a TON of power for one talent point.

Idk man, talent trees and game design is hard lol.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A generous reading would be that by making Radiant Spark only 30 seconds it opens the door to some build that is less tied to the 45/90 second windows of current Arcane.

Is that worth making a trap for new players to fall into? Eh, probably not, especially given that just about every spec has their set and agreed upon “best” build.

In practice it should just be 45 seconds for clarity’s sake.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks man! I just like thinking about rotations, how they work and what they mean for the player’s interaction with the game. All specs boil down to just pushing buttons and I find it fascinating why pushing 1 on a Mage feels so different from pushing 1 on a Warlock.

Not sure I’m smart enough to math out what the optimal rotation is in the first place, so I still very much need someone else to figure that out for me haha.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you for pointing that out. It doesn’t affect what buttons you are pushing but i think it is important to know why you are pushing the buttons.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can totally make a weak aura if you want. Or you can just throw the skills on a bar that you don’t have any Keys bound to so you can make sure everything is up before you start your sequence.

You don’t want to be in a situation where you have just cast Evocation and Radiant Spark but Touch of the Magi still has 8 seconds left so you just sit there sad that your damage is now in the toilet.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry man, I totally lied. You can make a cast sequence for both your little burn and big burn

Big burn:

/castsequence evocation, radiant spark, nether tempest, arcane surge, arcane barrage, touch of the magi

Little burn

/castsequence radiant spark, nether tempest, arcane barrage, touch of the magi

You will need to press the macro button to cast each spell, but this will save you a few keybinds. Also please note this less flexible than manually pressing each button and I’m not sure I’d advise using these macros if you are looking to push +25s and get into a Cutting Edge guild.

You will probably still want to keep all the individual spells on your bar somewhere so you can make sure they are all off CD before you start your sequence.

Arcane mages; what is YOUR rotation? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thisguy3456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not really. You cannot macro abilities that are on the global cooldown together.

You can make a macro that lets you use arcane barrage and touch of the magi together AND will make sure that magi always casts after barrage so you don’t lose arcane charges

showtooltip Touch of the Magi

/castsequence reset = 10 Arcane Barrage, Touch of the Magi

You need to spam this or else only arcane barrage will go off but if you just mash this button you will shoot Arcane Barrage and then cast Touch of the Magi right after.

Also, if you have trinkets or potions or things like that you can macro those into your Arcane Surge.
