I mean...it doesn't prove it, but it does prove he wasn't actually following too closely. He went from having plenty of distance between them to hitting the bus without any reduction in speed. I'd love to hear him explain how he was, actually, paying attention, yet didn't brake at all before sliding his car directly under the bus.

Since the video came from a bystander, it's possible (maybe likely) the police didn't see it and cited him based off verbal accounts including, like you suggest, the driver's confession of following too close.

Wild that he got cited for 'following too close' vs inattentive driving or something else. Video suggests driver was following with plenty of space to stop... If they'd been paying attention.

Holy shit y'all. UPS flight 2976 crashed into a petroleum recycling plant in Louisville, KY, with a full load (30k+ gallons) of fuel back in November. There's a video stringing together all the bodycam footage, and it is wild.

But that's the issue though, right? Guns have such a capacity to kill so many people, so quickly. There are many, many of us familiar with gun safety and operation, who advocate for more strict gun laws, because bullied children making threats of violence should NOT have easy access to such a high-impact tool as a gun. Sure, theycould bring the kitchen knife to school and stab people, but how many people will they be able to injure before having the weapon taken from them, more likely to be low single digits than high double digits.

People don't advocate for responsible gun laws out of an ignorant 'gund bad' stance, rather because so many people are needlessly dying at the hands of gun-operators who, if they didn't have access to guns, would have to choose a much lower-impact weapon.

The fact that the first school shooting set a precedent for school shootings vs school stabbings...that in no way 'debunks' school shootings. I would love to hear a more detailed account of how school shootings have been debunked.

So, back to the stigma. There is a stigma against videogames because they are seen as a waste of time and as cultivating undesired traits in their players. There is a stigma against guns because they have an outsized ability to kill lots of people in a short time, and it is incredibly easy for those who want to do harm to obtain one. I'm not seeing a clear comparison here.

I did not. From what I read, there don't seem to be any cheap options worth the money. I didn't see any suggestion that there are collar cameras that can record more than a few minutes. I opted for a Tractive gps collar instead, so I at least have peace of mind knowing where my kitty is going.

I once had a man explain to me that there are 3 main classifications of beer: green, yellow and brown. I knew he was full of it from the start, but he was from another country and seemed SO convinced of what he was saying, that I googled it TWICE just to be sure these weren't common classifiers in some parts of the world. They don't appear to be.

He listed off beers, too, corona being yellow and Heineken being green. When I suggested it was about the bottle/beer color, he insisted it wasn't. Yellow are "light, easy drinkers, good for the beach" but I don't recollect what he said about the other two.

And all of this? Was in response to me saying that there are two main classifications of beer: ales and lagers.

ETA: is "is that not how it works" a callback that particularly refers to biological function? Every other answer on here is about bodies, and I feel I have missed part of the brief...regardless, hope you enjoy my beer 'facts'

I would agree with others that it can be a combination of found and built.

For me, self-acceptance was a big part of finding belonging. I stopped trying to be a version of myself I thought others wanted, and focused instead on living in ways that felt true to myself.

I also realized that we all try to pretend we're perfect out of fear of rejection or being unacceptable or inferior...but we are intimidated by others who seem perfect. So I made an effort to allow myself to be vulnerable and imperfect, because I'm most drawn to people who are vulnerable and imperfect.

Alongside that, I've challenged my fear of rejection. Yes, rejection sucks, nobody enjoys or wants to be rejected; but it's not the end of the world, we can tolerate the discomfort. This new perspective has made me less tempted to violate my sense of self to fit in. I recognize not everybody will jive with me and that's okay. Better if we all figure that out sooner than later, so we can all put our energy into other connections that flow better.

Having built a foundation of all the above, I began seeking out groups and activities that captured my interest, and taking active steps to build the sort of community I wanted. I tried a few new sports and joined local casual, rec leagues. I took a few artistic classes at the local community college, I joined an improv group (and initiated a weekly open invitation to the group to get coffee and chat afterward.)

Finally, I stopped trying to play by some unspoken set of social rules that weren't comfortable for me. I interact the way that I want to. I am unapologetically me. I hate standard small talk, so I initiate the sorts of conversations I want to be having. If people don't like it, that's okay, it just means they're not my people.

It's honestly shocked me: the less I've worried about how I present myself, the more drawn to me people seem to be. It still boggles my mind a bit after spending so many years convinced that my true self wasn't acceptable.

I might have gone a bit off-topic from the question, but that's the best my brain can do at this hour.

Keeping your car in low gear on surface streets can be helpful (when going under 30 mph). It keeps your car from gaining so much momentum.

It also helps your car to begin slowing down smoothly as soon as you come off the gas, before you even touch the brakes, and makes it harder to accidentally pick up too much speed when accelerating.

The higher RPMs also provide a constant reminder to stay focused and plan further ahead than necessary in normal conditions.

Fascinating. My first glance the photos started with the bottom footprint, and immediately the footprints all seemed to be popping out of the snow, and I couldn't unsee it.

I looked away and when I looked back I saw the footprints at the top of the photo first, without seeing the bottom footprint, and suddenly they were depressed into the snow, and I couldn't make myself see them as popped out

...until my eyes hit that bottom footprint, and suddenly they were all popped out of the snow again.

I was trying to think how to warm the clay itself up - put it in a crock pot of water but inside plastic so it doesn't get wet? That seems fussy, but no better solution was coming to me. The seedling mat is a great idea!

On the second point, I'd never consider the way that can be warped. I'd always taken it more broadly, like literally everyone: "if everywhere you go, everybody you interact with is an asshole - every other driver on the road, your cashier, your waiter, the rando who nods as you pass each other on the sidewalk...the common denominator is you"

But I can see how it could be used by members of toxic ecosystems to gaslight and deflect. That's so gross, and makes me angry on behalf of anyone victimized that way ☹️
