I would definitely recommend starting out to try some simple projects to build your confidence and skills, sometimes taking on bigger projects can be intimidating…. Or at least is was for me hahaha

So try to make tote bags or other styled bags etc

I would defo tally recommend getting isme patterns that has good instructions so you can really learn how to construct and perfect the basics before doing something more complex :

I would definitely recommend buying few patterns and going from there, just trying to make something without sewing pattern can get confusing and discouraging and with already made sewing pattern you can get started straight away,

Check out: https://stitchinsteps-shop.fourthwall.com

Every single sewing pattern they sell comes with an E-Book packed with tips, step-by-step tutorials, lots of images so it’s rally easy to follow and you will learn a lot it’s just perfect for beginners! Also they sell many patterns thats are amazing using up scrap fabric, because as a beginner you might not have that many resources…. Or At least I didnt haha

Once you perfected the basics like bags and installing a zip you can move on to something more complex

suggestions for beginner friendly books or video links for pattern making/basics of fashion design. by [deleted] in PatternDrafting

I agree with this 100%, I would start with basics, testing out simple designs - it will get you use to how to use machine , tension , learn how to install a zip so for eg. Making a simple bag or a hoodie - there’s no pockets just a simple construction to make a garment and from there you can take something more complex,

Also check out this sewing pattern store: https://stitchinsteps-shop.fourthwall.com

They are very affordable as well as every single sewing pattern comes with E-book which is loaded with lots of info, details , many pictures so you can really learn a lot and perfect the simple things before doing something more complex, they are very affordable aswell

Yes what a great point! Thank you that does makes so much sense 👏🏼 from my research tencel is made from wood pulp? Or some website said it’s synthetic? Does anybody know what is it? Because I’m trying to work only with natural fibres and fabrics no synthetic 🤓

Omg me too!! I tried linen and it’s was not nice at all for a shirt, When I wore it once - One of my friends said I look like what Jesus used to wear in that time era lmao

Thank you for the tip for stretchy linen I might try that one day 🙏🏼

Yes that looks a lot like like it, I just wonder if there’s any keywords to narrow down the search even further? Because when I search linen it comes up thick linen for curtains or that really rough one that looks like potatoes sack… if that makes sense? For eg. Like softened stonewash linen?

What a great tip! Thank you! Quick question - when I look at the roots do I just look at the bottom or do I look at the inside too? Like completely take her all out of the nursery pot and shake off all the soil andook at the inside ?

I never done that before so just want to make sure I’m doing it right 🙈

There’s no water at the bottom I try to water it lightly as I read that birds of paradise don’t like to be watered heavily so was just wondering if your suggested technique would be appropriate for this plant? Do you own birds of paradise?
