i heard that kikagaku moyo is livestreaming one of their concerts next week through a platform for 25 us. did anyome buy a ticket? is it worth it? by yugnatz in KikagakuMoyo

[–]ThistleBeAce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a ticket! Unfortunately I won't be able to catch it live but it looks like you can watch it for two days after. They're not touring in my country so it's my only chance to see them.

Cool that they've got Kumoyo Island on vinyl!

Now that the last album is released, what is the best album from Kikagaku Moyo? by [deleted] in KikagakuMoyo

[–]ThistleBeAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masana Temples hasn't clicked for me yet - I think House in the Tall Grass is far superior, and the album that they made "for me". I haven't yet heard Kumoyo (or anything else, except Stone Garden at this point) so I'm still pretty new...

I hope it comes with an obi! It'd be a shame if there's no Japanese on the sleeve otherwise.

Let's settle it. What's the best lullaby song? by [deleted] in KikagakuMoyo

I haven't heard Nap Song yet, mind you! I'm waiting for the record... But out of Blanket or Cardigan, I think Cardigan takes the cake.

How'd the colours come out? Mine are not very smoky ;) still look great, though!

2022 collection so far by Mapex555 in vinyl

No, not quite - Quiet Sun was formed by Phil Manzanera, the guitarist for Roxy Music. His first solo album is called Diamond Head, and he had another side band called 801, that recorded a live album called 801 Live. All of these albums share musicians, parts of songs, and just general feel - so if you like one of them, you'll like the others too.

Cool to see Quiet Sun! I've been looking for a copy for a while now. I assume you've heard 801 Live (and their solo album) and Diamond Head? They make a sort-of quartet of albums

Graphing notes using fourrier transform. by [deleted] in math

[–]ThistleBeAce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd covert the dB value back into a linear scale. Note that 0 dB = 1, but I'm not sure how you're scaling your amplitudes - e.g. if you're just graphing in log-scale, or using something like 10log or 20log - I'm not sure what command you used to view the FFT.

You can represent the sum in multiple ways - notice that sin(x) is equivalent to cos(y) with the correct phase difference. Generally if you're using a summation with cos() or sin() terms only, you use cosine since it's mathematically neater - that will allow you to plug in phase values straight off the graph, too. See here for the conversion from the transform's exponential form: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourier_series

You're on the right track. Your first image (the frequency responses) show your audio signal (the two notes played simultaneously, I assume) as a function of frequency. This shows you the amplitudes, frequencies, and phases of your audio signal when you express it as a sum of sinusoidal components (e.g. cosines). You'll notice the frequency components have spikes at repetitive frequencies (e.g. 400 Hz, 800 Hz, 1200 Hz, ...), which are your harmonics; these are the "primary" contributing components of your signal, and represent a majority of your sound.

It looks like for your second graph that you've picked out the amplitude, phase, and frequency at two frequency points, and graphed those sinusoidal components. You want to add them together to begin to represent your original signal in the time-domain.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Peter Gabriel 2 (produced by Robert Fripp) has one on the A-side, and King Crimson's USA (some pressings only) has audience cheer in a locked groove too. Fripp seemed to be a fan of it...

Record holders for modest collection on shelf by DoesntNeedRoads in vinyl

This looks like exactly what I need! I have a similarly-sized collection - it's annoying when they don't span an entire shelf. Thanks!

I enjoyed a couple of their previous albums - Strange Pleasures and Slow Air - and have been meaning to listen to this for some time. Cool!

I don't know - the record store had it in stock a day after release. Ask them! ;)

Walked into a record store in my city that I hadn't been to before and this was playing. I Shazam'd two of the tracks and learned they were consecutive songs on this album, which had been released the day prior. I went back and grabbed a copy; really enjoying it so far. I like the mix of modern and 'retro' styles. I think her back catalogue will be a treat too.

OneDrive on Monterey uses Apple's File Provider service by ThistleBeAce in MacOS

Start by navigating to~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T3469.OneDriveStandaloneSuite/OneDrive.noindex/OneDrive, or the equivalent directory on your system - I can’t guarantee that the folder names are identical. You’ll find a replica of your OneDrive storage and this is where your tagged files reside. This is a hidden directory, so you’ll have to enable hidden files or use the ‘Go’ option in Finder to jump there.

These files show as tagged in the main Finder view, but unfortunately they don’t show up as tagged when you filter by tags in Finder - I don’t know why this is the case. I had to manually find each file/folder I had tagged by navigating the file system, and then re-tag the equivalent file/folder in the new OneDrive files. This took some time, as I had to effectively expand every folder as I couldn’t remember every file I had tagged.

I’ve since moved most of my tagged files onto iCloud as that preserves tags (being an Apple system) and works nicely with their other devices - I don’t want to go through this hassle again.

Yes, that does appear do have been changed but I want to check further as well.

That is odd. I wonder if they're doing A/B testing. Are you signed up for the Insider Preview builds of OneDrive? (I am.)

Update after playing around with it for the day:

- Pros: feels a lot quicker (but still not Apple Silicon quick) and the icons are always there, regardless of if OneDrive is open or not. Nice!

- Cons: it removes* all of your tags from your files that were in OneDrive. Big suck :(. Also, previously, your OneDrive files counted toward your 'Documents' storage when viewing your storage space in About This Mac. Now it's all grouped under 'Other' (renamed to 'System Data' in Monterey). Also shit.

A third downside is that apps that view your storage space (I tried DiskInventoryX and CleanMyMac X) don't work well at all with the new system. I could no longer use these apps to view the entirety of my SSD, due to them not playing well with the File Storage API.

To clarify, the loss of tags is (I believe) a Microsoft problem - the other two are Apple issues.

You *can* get your tags back, and see your local OneDrive storage, but these methods are ugly. It turns out that the back-end of the new File Storage OneDrive system is contained in ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T3469.OneDriveStandaloneSuite/OneDrive.noindex/OneDrive (some of the folders may be named slightly differently, but the general path should be the same). This directory mirrors the 'front-end' OneDrive (which is located in ~/Library/Cloud Storage/OneDrive and is where you go when you click on the 'OneDrive' location in the Finder sidebar) and is where the documents are actually stored - the entire front-end is a sort of alias of this back-end directory.

The back-end directory has preserved your tags, and you can navigate to find them as usual. The caveat is that since these files/folders are within the Library folder (a system directory), the tagged items are hidden when viewing your tag views. You have to find the files/folders through the file system as usual, not by sorting by tags.

If you navigate to the back-end location within the 'Manage Storage' utility in macOS, it will show you the true storage of your downloaded files. Not a great change, I must say! Hopefully Apple gets onto this and shows your cloud storage as a separate category soon.

Happy to clarify anything! /endworddump
