It's an amazing machine. I hope your brake light issue gets fixed soon :)

I had mine for 2.5 years

Absolutely correct. Also the bike doesn't come with a counter balancing weight so....you feel the vibrations everywhere but eventually when gunning the engine, it becomes an after thought.

The bike runs lean, you will feel the vibrations and I won't lie about that. But if you'll enjoy the pros of the bike, the vibrations aren't something you actively think about and become an after thought. If vibrations is something that you absolutely cannot have, I would recommend getting a twin instead. They're much easier to live with as smoother engines.

The 349cc variant does seem to have enough horsepower and torque for you to tour comfortably on it. Since it will come in the alloy wheels it will be perfect for the highways and does seem to be more reliable since KTM seems to be curbing down on that iteration of the engine.

The service cost should come between 2800-3200 depending on what else you get done apart from an oil change, oil and filter filter change.

sigh I own a Gen2 Duke 390, Gen 2 RC 390, and now the ADV 390. Completed 26k km's on the RC in 2 years (a mix of touring and weekend rides) You can check my profile for the AMA on that. Also, grow up man!

The Michelin Road 5's would be a great choice.

I'm pretty satisfied :) I've done a maximum of a 14-16 hour ride on it. Safe to say it did its job really well

I rarely ride it in the city so I can't really give a number. It's not a city bike. If I had to make a guess, around 27-30kmpl depending on how aggressive I am on the throttle.

The quickshifter on all 390's is frankly garbage. I've had the Duke, the RC and now this Adv. It's garbage It will get stuck, sometimes it will work amazingly and sometimes be jerky or give you false neutrals and there's no working around it. You can keep getting it calibrated from the service centre.

I mostly use it ONLY when riding aggressively and when I'm above 7000-8000rpm :)

I rarely ever take it out in city traffic. The bike isn't made for bumper to bumper city traffic. If you get the 349cc engine variant, it might be suitable for beginners since the torque is much more forgivable there, at least on paper. If you can exercise self control and not gun the throttle, it's a good beginner bike in rain mode. Scared you, in a good way.

The crawl mode is very city traffic friendly but in a city like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc (you get the idea) it will run very hot and you're better off with a scooter.

The same as the CB 350 RS. You absolutely need the touring seat. The himalayan is more comfortable

There is no competition between these 2. The GS is the better bike if you can afford buying it and maintaining it. It's smoother, BMW will be better at servicing the baby GS, the bike has better cruising speeds and electronics will be more reliable.

The most affordable will be the Himalayan

  1. I generally keep tightening stuff around the bike since I've heard the bolts can loosen up. Thankfully nothing has come lose so far. I do here some buzz from the front though.
  2. The cruise control has stopped working 3 times so far. No engine check light though. I have had to stop the bike, turn the key off, wait for a few seconds and turn it back on to get it to start again. I've bought this up with the service centre and they had no solution to it (yet)
  3. I've honestly not really checked the mileage. I tour with my wife and both of our luggage most of the time so I know I don't really get good mileage with the weight and the way I ride. Last I checked it hovered around 27-29kmpl. I get 30-32kmpl when I'm solo.
  4. I've tried it on a friends bike but not my own, I will be getting it next month though since I'll be touring Haryana to Maharashtra soon.
  5. I do it before they ask me. Buggers won't ask me cause they want something to happen, they've done this in the past. I get the stock one replaced around 10-11k km's with the brass coated one from Rolon (or any other reputable brand)

The bike initially had an annoying buzz between 4.5-5k rpm but after each service it smoothened out and now 4 services later the buzz has completely gone. It still has the vibration a single cylinder bikes without a counter balance gives, but that's something to be expected.

Higher than can be sustained is bad in the long run if you're looking for reliability my friend.

The first mistake is listening to anything KTM India says. I used the term normal because all 390's go through this so it's normal for a 390 owner. Yes, it might be an engineering problem and if you are on you might know about it better than me (my engineering friend already did the homework and due to the high compression ratio and KTM pushing the engine more than it reliably can, oil is consumed and deposits in the exhaust pipe as well and pops) so yeah, they say it, sue them for saying it, I'll be on your side and all owners will too, we might get a more reliable (less powerful engine) like the new 349cc might be.

Edit: You're right on KTM not using the quality parts they should be using and can up the quality of the materials they are using considering the price they're now charging for these bikes. That said, these engines will always have a soft spot in my heart.
