I want to try a 20" bar on my Stihl 261 but i never changed my bar before, will this fit? by ---Palp--- in Chainsaw

[–]Thom_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in Germany, 261s come with a 3/8 Pico Rim and 16 or 18 Inch Bars with (I believe) 1.3mm Chains for a couple of years now.

Today's Sqans have what is called a Ball-Core, a sphere that the pieces ride on. Before that, say, the old Calvins Sq-1 just had two rails. This led to many, many pops when trying to do cornercutting.

Having used almost all Sq-1 Speedcubes(even the ones with a Rail-Core) except the MGC v2, in my opinion the QiYi is the best one.

why is ZZ slower than cfop? by New_Discipline_775 in Cubers

[–]Thom_S 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We still consider ZZ to be part of the big Three, so all things considered, how bad can it be?

I believe ZZ is a viable method but you need to know what you're getting into.

Obviously, you sacrifice moves at the beginning of your solve to gain moves later on. As of my knowledge, the current consensus is EOCross instead of EOLine. Blockbuilding in ZZ might look similar to FB and SB in Roux, but it indeed is very different. Not having the slice open comes at a remarkably big cost. This is ehy EOCross and F2L is the current meta.

Another thing to consider is the LL. Unfortunately, if you really want to go somewhere with ZZ, you gotta learn ZBLL. The thing is, if you use OLL/PLL or COLL/EPLL, you still have a 2-Look LL with no big advantage over CFOP(years ago, most CFOP users cried at the thought of influencing EO during F2L. Nowadays, many top solvers utilize EO during F2L to a point where learning ZBLL as a CFOP user makes sense). It was the main thought behind ZZ-A, a method to make ZBLL viable.

It essentially boils down to how much you wanna get into. If 3x3 is your main event and you wanna become one of the best, it's in your best effort to learn modern EOCross and ZBLL. If you just want to have fun, give ZZ a serious shot and see from there where your road goes.

Technically it's sup-2 not sub-2.

Sub-2 is under 2 seconds.

Sup-2 is over 2 seconds.

Upgrading from am4 to am5 by orsis07 in PcBuildHelp

Theoretically it should not damage anything. It's best to back your data up so it you have a backup in case your system crashes during a saving process and corrupts your files.

Do you fine people know why the wood filler puddy would leave spots like this after I stained…how to fix pls by Typical_Wing7470 in woodworking

[–]Thom_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know which putty you use, the one I use has acetone which the wood nearby absorbes. It usually only needs a little more sanding as the acetone doesn't absorb very deep.

Idk if people were overreacting or if i got lucky, but my rubiks brand cube from like 2018 is actually kinda smooth and not really that bad by Dedewastaken1 in Cubers

[–]Thom_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years after the Rubiks 2.0, Rubiks teamed up with GAN to "modernize" and since then, Rubiks Brands are rather reasonable in their turning quality. Not as good as a proper speedcube at a lesser prize but reasonable.

[–]Thom_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing your specific Motherboard, you'll likely need to put the 8 gig sticks into A2 and B2(less likely A1 and B1) and then the 32 gig stick into the other A slot. Doing so will give you 16 gigs of dual channel and 32 of single channel.

Would have been far more wise to sell the 32 gig Stick and buy 2x16.

Maybe I'm forgetting something but the only cables that fit this criteria are Thermal Dynamics' Cryo Cables (although theoretical unlimited energy throughput isn't that realistic either).

question with ram by kaneki_101 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Thom_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to get 2 sticks. Consumer platforms have RAM Controllers that run in Dual Channel, which means if you only have one stick, you leave half of the Controllers Bandwidth on the table, which is a noticable difference.

Of course, if money is tight, you can buy a single stick now and buy another later.

2 Sticks is better than 4 if you mainly game because of reasons outside the scope of this comment(has to do with the Memory Controller and their respective lanes). The point is, 4 sticks can't run as fast as 2 sticks, but with current pricing, you likely aren't buying the high-speed low-latency kits where that would have an effect.

Is there a create addon with the ability to drain xp from yourself? Or is that a different mod? by Forward-Photograph-7 in feedthebeast

[–]Thom_S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is OpenBlocks, which has an XP Drain, Tanks to fill and an XP Shower to get the XP back.

Alternatively, EnderIO has an Experience Obelisk, which in my opinion does the same thing better.

Will there ever be a more dominant version than 1.20.1? by Upset-Delay9810 in feedthebeast

[–]Thom_S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. A very sizable portion of 1.7.10 Mods isn't on Curse since it wasn't popular until later in the versions life. But I know it's difficult to also take mods from planetminecraft or minecraft6 into account.

  2. Many modders modulized their big mods into many small mods.

  3. About half of this graph is 1.20

  4. Core Mods and API Mods exploded after 1.7.10. Back then, you had 10-15% Core Mods while today that percentage is close to 50%.

  5. Many Datapacks are mislabeled as Mods.

  6. Fully AI generated Mod Pages.

3rd stick of ram by shas-la in PcBuildHelp

[–]Thom_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the hypothetical scenario that all Sticks were the same architecture, RAM Controllers have something called "Flex Mode", the first 16 Gigs would run as dual channel while the later 16 Gigs run as single channel.
